Hey all you people who own speed3's in GA. I was wondering how was your dealership experience. I mean if you had any mechanical problems did they hassle you about it. The only real mods I want to do is cai, mm, and maybe a new bpv. I just want to know if you think they will void my warranty. I heard someone from another state getting refused just for a cai. LMK. Thanks.

Dealers can be like that unfortunately. I have had some BAD experiences with my old S/C G35. I basically never took it to Infiniti because they refused to work on it. If I felt I had leg to stand on (like if the radio went out), I would have asked them to work on it. (And they would have.) Unfortunately, most of my issues could have been linked, albeit indirectly, to the S/C installation. When you mod your car with aftermarket parts, it is a risk you take. That is exactly why nothing is going on my car that doesn't say Mazda on it -- and they are going to install it all too.

Perhaps that's why you're getting "walked" by BMW's with 225hp!
Ha! Well i can live with that. Getting walked by a 330 doesn't bother me. I also don't worry about running the crap out of my car and something blowing up (clutch, engine, etc.), because I can still take it to the dealer and have it fixed for free....

YOu must not be driving your car right because there is no way in hell a BMW with 225hp is going to walk a Mazdaspeed 3!
P.S. Watch out for hydro-lock with that MS CAI! I know of 4 ppl already with Speed 3's here in florida that paid out the ass for a new motor due to hydro-lock. This is why I went with the Cobb SRI plus it's cheaper and just as or more effective. TAkes about 20 min to take it off and put stock air box back on for stearlership visits.

Jim Ellis is the most horrible dealership on the face of this planet. The one in Marietta is where I purchased my speed.
What problems were you having with the car?
Usually, there's no need to take your car to the stealership (with the exception for recalls + TSB's).
Just ask anyone in GA for help - we're willing to lend a hand or two..

Bring a print out of the Magnusson Moss Act if you have to.

Why would those people drive thru water that is that deep?They must not be very bright because just splashing water on the intake will not hydro lock it,You would have to sumerge it under water for it to do that and to get it under water you would have to drive thru water that is very very deep.
maybe some people need to drive with caution when it is raining. I have driven through Georgia hail storm couple weeks back, through severe thunderstorms and never had problem. Believe me, i had the car since 06 december and since then, driven through countless storms with heavy rain. Only way to hydrolock is to drive your car in wot in the heavy rain and even that is doubtful because filter is very well protected against any water. Really only way to hydrolock is to take off all the protective covers (bumper, wheel wells, under carriage cover) so that filter is exposed or submerge it. Those who do deserve their car get hydrolocked. Dont discourage CAI because other people's stupidity.

I don't know many other ways than to mash the gas and go straight. That doesn't require much skill.
P.S. Thanks for the warning on the hydro-lock. I have driven the car for almost a year now in the rain and never had a problem.

It's been my experience that when you mess with something on the car, whatever it directly affects is voided. (ie coilovers, there goes all suspension warrantys, new grille say goodbye to the body warranty, and you just put that new intake on, well... you're out of warranties now.) Luckily my car is out of warranty stage so I can just screw with it. Plus, I like working on my car anyhow.
No, the burden of proof is on the manufacturer to prove that your modification directly caused the failure. Unfortunately, as nice as it is to have that protection, it doesn't do you any good unless you're willing to go to court to get something fixed on your car. They're going to say no until they, at the very least, get a letter from your lawyer. A letter from your lawyer would probably do it in most cases, though. Most dealerships would rather cut a check than deal with a trial.

That would depend on the issue. I've never done it, but I believe a friend of mine told me once that it cost him about $80 every time he had his lawyer write a letter (for his business, he was not going around threatening to personally sue people constantly).

Yep, if had to get a motor or tranny replaced and the manufacturer wanted to deny coverage, paying for a letter from a lawyer would be dirt cheap compared to the alternative.
