"Gentle" Knocking/Pinging on "Tougher" Accelerations

perhaps it could be the winter gas blend here in colorado, which contains a high percentage of ethanol?

Just bought a 08 Touring with 15k for 13900 (boom06)

I too have that pinging it sounds like loose change when i put on some accelaration......

BUMP and hopefully someone finds a fix for this.....

If it really bothers you, go have Mazda back off the timing a bit. Otherwise, just leave it alone and enjoy your high mpg.

we have read all the posts - we're just looking for other opinions.

getting a mazda service tech to agree that this is what is going on might be a challenge. it has been for me...

Not to slag our American members, but the only two times I've been in a car with the pinging problem was in the states. One vehicle was an old vw bus and after we filled up in North Dakota, we were pinging like crazy. Other was a Cavalier in Phoenix - going up an octane level was the only thing that made it go away. The problem usually showed up with hotter weather.

Where I live, I mostly buy discount gas and do not have a problem.
