OK, now get some meaty tires. I like my 205/50 15 NeoGen's from Nitto. All Season, ultrahigh performance.

Good to know; the stock Yokos Avid S38 are what I need for now.

Question on the size: stock the width is 185 and you recommend 205. That's 20mm (almost an inch) wider than what Mazda put in place as stock. Isn't there a concern that you could negatively affect a significant chunk of engineering? I'm going here with the premise that it all starts with "where the rubber meets the road".

Aside from a slightly adverse effect on fuel economy, and more "pull" into ruts on the road, there really isn't a major concern with going wider. Aside from rubbing/interference with suspension components that is.

185s were put on by mazda because they get better fuel economy. Lots of people here, including myself, are running 205s without issue.

Might want to double check how wide your wheels are. From the look of things, if you have simply wrapped the stock 185 tires back on them, they are probably not very wide -- 5.5" - 6" would be my guess?

I wouldn't want to run a 205 tire on a 6" wheels. My preferred wheel size would be 15x7.5 with a 205/50/15 tire, although 15x7 would also be OK.

Well, some tires are designed for more narrow rims. My NeoGen tires have a broad shoulder that insets to the rim. They look normal. I'll admit the mileage isn't great. But the grip is another matter.

I had them installed at the Mazda dealership where I bought the car. Before they installed the alloys they did a fit test. Should I be wary beyond this?

Don't worry about it. Since those aren't likely much wider than the factory wheel, I just wouldn't go beyond 195/50 or 195/55 for the next set. Even on a 7.5" wide wheel, 195mm width works well. Unless you're cornering hard enough to loose traction, you don't need more grip.
