Completely secure until someone spends the $0.34 on a packet of Gelatin. Search on google, a chemistry teacher taught his students how to lift prints and create a mold. I don't know whether that is a good thing or a bad thing. There's probably a group of 8th graders somewhere putting together a crack commando team to infiltrate laptops around the world, armed with hundreds of gelatin packets.

Here's one for Mac users!!

- PowerBook 1400c (guys, its vintage 1994 and still running strong and pushing the envelope. For the uninitiated, a PowerBook is a laptop)

- MacOS 8.6J (for Japanese)
- Sonnet Technologies G3 400MHz CPU upgrade (yep, you can upgrade Mac portables unlike the Microsloth ones)
- 48 MB single piggyback RAM card, total 64MB
- RAMDoubler 2.0 to jack it to 192MB
- Newer Technologies ViewPowr (allows Monitor spanning and Video mirroring, max resolution 1024x768 256 colors) external video card (yes, monitor spanning was available on Macs since 1984, something Windoze has FINALLY able to do, with lots of pain to boot)
- MegaHertz CruiseCard (PCMCIA) fax/modem 56k
- SimpleTech 13GB IDE HDD
- Creative SubWoofer and Tweeters
- External Mac Keyboard, Kensington Orbit mouse and 17" external piece of crap monitor

I also have a PowerBook Duo 280 (grayscale) that I use from time to time with the NewerTech UltraSCSI Docking Station.

Before anyone flames me, I've been around computers since the days of DOS, and use Windoze at work, so I KNOW both OSes (starting with DOS, Windows 2.0 and KanjiTalk 7.1), and Macs are definitely better for graphics and foreigh language support. Enjoy your computer!

Pushing the envelope?? What sort of envelope is that. If you were on OS X, then maybe I would agree. Yes, you can upgrade your laptop with a Sonnet Technologies CPU upgrade card but the damned things cost roughly $300 and void your warranty. Granted it's easy enough to get around that, but come on, it's a mac. Software section is tiny. Hardware selection follows suit. For the money it costs to buy a new G5, I could build a Dual P4, and still have cash left.

Just for the record, you can upgrade a laptop, you just need to buy better components. Try hitting www.pricewatch.com you can find prices on mobile chips there.

Don't get me wrong, mac's have their place. I have friends who use both, and I will say this. Very few people actually love their PC, but I don't know a single MAC user who doesn't love their MAC. I have an iMac, ran OS 8.5 then 8.51, then 8.6 for quite a while. Mac is alot simpler to operate, things do tend to generally flow better. But I like playing games, running software, and using emulators. I found I liked my iMac better when I loaded Yellow Dog Linux. It's faster, more responsive, and quite a usable little machine now.

Oh, and dual monitor support has been working just fine for me. I'm actually watching Willard (divx dvd rip) right now on my top monitor while I download some bittorrent stuff, and chat on AIM with this bottom monitor.

The easiest argument against mac is the cash aspect. Build any MAC machine, I'll build a PC for the same price that can easily do more.

yeah, Mac users are usually Mac nuts, but then again you probably don't use Japanese.

I use Windoze at work and trying to input Japanese with the MS' shift-jis IME is a huge pain. Kotoeri's so much simpler.

And monitor spanning, one of my coworkers was going crazy trying to get it to work on Windows. On Macs its plug and play, not plug and pray.

Whatever, IMO for graphics, music and stuff like that Mac has the edge in terms of utilities and software and usability. For lots of other things, Windoze isn't bad, probably a matter of preference now for many people.

At least Apple's existence allows the citizens in Redmond continue to say that they aren't a monopoly.

BTW, have you figured out a way to play a DVD and make that your Wallpaper on Windows? That can be done on the Titanium notebooks but I don't know if it can be done on Windows. If it can, that'd be awesome.

Yeah, I should have my car by friday, they weren't happy with the way the intercooler was fitting, so they ordered a new one, and are changing the piping. Turns out that the ES with an automatic tranny is built alot differint. Even the bumper is different. Most peoples are black metal with styrofoam, mine is almost all white plastic.

I can assure you, all you need to do is install two video cards, or just buy a video card that does dual head like mine does (GF4 ti4600). I do video encoding/compression/editing - and PC's are better. Faster encoding times. As far as software, I use Vegas Video and Virtualdub. TMPGenc also. I've used Premiere, but it's not what I like. As far as DVD for a background. Yep, I can do it, but with two monitors and a TV out, there's really no need.

WinDVD4 does it, I believe a few other programs do it as well.

Here's a few question:.

Can your mac play MAME emulators? Can it copy DVD's? Can you play playstation games on your mac? how about Nintendo, Genesis, Super Nintendo, Saturn, TurboGrafx-16, Sega Master System. Can you back up your Gameboy Advance titles, and load them onto a blank ram cart to trade with friends? Can you play the latest games when they are released? Can you change your OS at will?

How about old school dos compatability. Can you run the old SCUMM engine games like Day of the Tentacle by searching through a newsgroup to find out the proper settings and loading a Dos soundcard emulator.

How about VMware? I can run Windows98, Mandrake Linux, and XP pro, all at the same time - on my desktop which is running Windows XP pro. I can setup virtual gateways and switches between them as well.

Can you setup your computer as a PVR, setting it to record your favorite programs while you are away? Can you connect to your MAC remotely and change settings, retrieve files, access your desktop? How about programs like Terminal Server and Citrix ICA?

Mac's are great because they are simple, but when you want to get work done - I'll take a PC. Learning curve is certainly harder with a PC, but to my opinion - it's worth it.
