Hi Folks,

I have observed that on the CX5 when my gear shift is in Drive, I can press the enigne start/stop button and the engine shuts off.

Is this the default case with all the CX5?? , as per my understanding I had a Mazda 3 car and when the gear shift was in Drive, the key could not be shut off.

Yup, happens to me once every other week and I don't like the sound it makes. I guess I'm still used to driving a standard and leaving it in gear when turning it off.

All cars can be shut off in drive. Its a safety feature. Remember hearing about all the stuck gas pedal cars?

It would shut off if you had a regular key and turned it off, while in drive, whats the difference? If you don't want it to turn off, don't press the "stop" button.

As per the manual the engine can only be stopped by holding the button for a few seconds. Like nizzy mentioned it is a safety feature but it should never shut off with a simple push of the button.

It happened to me today. Interesting was that, I was trying to lock the door and it didn't worked. Thus, when I checked, I found that I turned the engine off with the gear shift in Drive. Glad to see that has this security feature. After putting the gear shift in Park, then I was able to lock the doors.

Is it bad? It sounds like when you have a manual in gear and let off the clutch (no gas). A bit of shudder and it shuts off.

You need some way to turn it off in an emergency. Its also a feature. When you turn off engine in neutral/drive the radio continues to play. Nice when you park the car, but want to continue listening to radio a few minutes.
