Gauge color at night?

On a 2008 Mazda3 GT (Canadian spec.), are the gauges still backlit red & blue at night time? I asked a noobie salesman at the dealership and he had no idea...

i would say yes with 99.9% accuracy... as i have an 04 not an 08 and its not canadian spec but as far as i know the dash and lights haven't changed.

Well you can change them to a consistent red... no matter what. Thats the whole purpose of the outside light indicator.

Technically the red is backlit and the blue is front lit. The blue lights are shining on the face of the gauges.

Either way it can be changed whether the head lights are on or not...

Not quite following you.

-with the ignition on/lights off the face is black with red numbers/indicators

• -the button (between tach/speedo) toggles brightness of the red
• -the dimmer knob does nothing

-with the ignition on/lights on the face is black w/ red numbers/indicators, and blue rings around the gauges.

• -the button toggles day night. Night is dim, day is whatever setting you left set when the lights were off.
• -In "Day" mode the dimmer knob doesn't effect the red stuff.
• -the dimmer knob dims the night mode red/blue, plus the center stack
