hey everybody,

i was putting in a full tank of gas the other day, from nearly empty to full..while filling up the gas meter would stop half way like it topped off already. has anyone else had there experience with there 5?

then i thought maybe it was just the gas station's meter, so my wife took it somewhere else it fill up days later..same results.

im curious what this can be. and how it can be fixed..i need your guys wisedom here(bowdown) thanks

I think (key word "think") you may have a plugged gas tank vent valve.

Someone called into Car Talk with a similar problem, and the guys told him that it's most like a plugged gas tank vent valve. Something about the extra vapor pressure in the tank triggering the gas pump to shut off early.

It's a guess.

Mine does this from time to time. Does it whether the tank is mostly full or empty. Never does it at the gas station I use most often at home. Over the past 6 or so trips with the 5 we always stop at one station to fill up and I never seem to be able to fill it completely. Makes it hard to figure mpg, that tank will be 37 the next 26 with identical driving. So maybe it's a little of the car and a little of the gas pump being used?...

I've always had a gas tank that overflows when it hits full at the first click. I took it in for a fix that didn't seem to work, and since then I just pull the gas pump handle up to half speed. Costs me an extra 30 seconds of my life every time I fill up, big deal. Problem solved. :)

On mine it doesn't make any difference, when it does this it just won't fill all the way. But it rarely does it and it's only like the last gallon or so, so It doesn't bother me

Hm, that sucks. When it clicks, have you ever tried just letting it set for a few seconds to "settle" into the tank, and proceed to the 2nd click? Oh well, like you, I just got used to this quirk... nothing's perfect I suppose.
