I just did a recent trip to timmins. I did about 2000 km's for the weekend and I watched my gas ccomsumption on the highway. I calculated about 40-42 MPG for highway which is the exact same specs as I received on the window sticker. MP3 is different then the P5 and 4 door. Now I checked the websites and something is fishy here...

www.mazda.ca/eng/cars/2002_protege/specs.html

Check out the MPG for the cars in Canada.....

Now check the US ones...

http://www.mazdausa.com/protege/specs/default.asp?vehicle=protege&zip=&did=&state=

What the heck is going on....

Cdn 2.0L Manual

29/39 MPG

US 2.0L Manual

25/31 MPG

I don't quite understand.... Can someone please shed some light on this...

Thanks

I ran into this once before....the DIFFERENCE is the Canadian numbers are using IMPERIAL gallons...and the US numbers are using US gallons. you have to do the conversion to see that the ACTUAL numbers are the same.

But I think he calculated it based on US gallons....

nope...if you go to the mazda canada site he links....its the spec sheet for the car...it not only lists the mileage in MPG but also in Litres/100 Km....and if you do that conversion to STATUET miles (us) per US liquid Gallons.....it comes out 24.5 MPG city...and 32 MPG highway when you do some rounding off....so it is right in line with the 25 mpg city and 31 mpg highway that is on the US car stickers and the US site.
