Gas light

Just wondering if anyone knew how far you could travel once that gas light came on. I know with my previous car you could travel for 20 miles before if ran out of gas. Just didn't know on the p5

Thanks,
Brad

I have never tried, but why would you let it get that low. There is a risk of plugginf the filter with all the s*** that is at the bottom...

If the pick-up sits toward the bottom of the tank, how does it matter how low the fuel level is? I have always wondered about that theory there...any explination for that?

Do you how does the gauge work? Or how does a fuel pump that is mounted on top manages to pick fuel up?

Btw I normally get about 40miles when the light comes to when I pull in for gas. But the gauges are so inaccurate, cause of how the sending unit works.

The light comes on when you have a little more than 2 gallons left in your tank. So figure you've got between 40-60 miles to put gas in your car.

I believe it tells you in the owner's manual exactly when the light comes on.

Dont know if this is related or knot, but once in a while after filling up my gas tank, the gauge takes about 10 minutes to go back up to "full", instead of popping right back up there when I fire it up. And does anyone else have a b**** of a time getting that last gallon or so in, with the pump shutting off 15-20 times, yet you still get another 1-1.5 gallons in there?

the first day we picked up our cars I drove mine till the light came on...as soon as it did I pulled in and filled it up....I had two gallons left....

depending on where the fuel pick up is....I get between 25-30 mpg depending on the type of driving I am doing.....

my recommendation....look at your odometer when the light comes on and with in 30-40 miles you would be well advised to fill the tank.

The trick is to not stick the gas nozzle all the way in. And when you're almost full, just squeeze the lever half way. The gas will flow slower, but it will not shut off that many times. But u gotta be careful not to overfill and spill :)

Easiest way to find out how many miles you have left is the next time your car gets the gas light, go fill up. The tank can hold 14.9 gallons, so whatever the meter says after it fills up, subtract that from 14.9 and you'll have your answer.

depending on your driving technique, anywhere from 20-40 miles; however, don't suggest letting it go super low. and take the nozzle out a lil bit when filling gas. most gas pumps have a default that makes it click off once it hits a certain point so not 2 overflow. the nozzle is pretty long, so it'll shut off a lil bit early. watch out that u don't over flow if u do that, not a pretty sight.

actually the tank is 14.5 gallons. I've found the light comes on w/ about 2.5 gallons left in the tank. oh and by the way our guages suck ass. at least the guage reads that we have less than whats actually in the tank.

yeah, when the light comes on i can pump 12 gallons in. i have driven a long way after the light has come on (50+ miles). when i am easy on the car, i figure i can go 70 miles before totally running out, probably more though. the most gas i have put in my tank is 13.4 gallons (about 1 gallon left) and i was getting worried at the time (radio off, no fans running......)......

From what I've heard, and you can test the theory in a bucket, any sediment is pretty stable at high fuel levels. But when the fuel level is very low, it is much easier for the gas sloshing around to agitate any crap at the bottom of the tank. But I suppose that varies with tank design. I don't know what the insides look like with the pickup, filter, and fuel level sensor.

Yes I does!
