full motor replace PLEASE HELP!!!

Lol, the diff will not collapse!!
I have had both axles out of MANY Proteges over the years and no problems at all....

This sounds like it came from the same book as "proteges eat head gaskets" LOL!!

It actually comes out of the service manual... I have a feeling if the Mazda engineers didn't think it was going to possibly fall apart they wouldn't have put it in the service manual with bold letters. Maybe you have done it without that, but it's pretty easy just to take a piece of aircraft wire and wire the half shaft so it doesn't fall out...

EDIT: It can happen to Automatics a lot easier from what I've seen too.

Well that explains why trannys are usually shipped with the axles in, just cut off. Good info to have, thanks guys. (2thumbs)

ours ate a head gasket. Of course the radiator failed on the freeway and it wasn't shut down quickly enough...

I know I had both axles out of an AT trans and zero issues. I replaced the motor myself as well, and installed the trans before stuffing the motor back into the car.

One tip - replace the motor mounts while it's apart. I cheaped out and didn't do that. Then I paid for it two years later - that lower rear mount is a major PITA to replace with the motor in the car. That was literally harder than swapping the motor....

When I replaced my differential mine didn't collapse until I removed it from the Trans case. With that said I do believe there is a high potential for it to collapse. There is nothing holding it together once the axels are out.
