I was stationed in Oklahoma for about 3.5 years as a Field Artilleryman and now its time for my first real assignment (in November) as an interrogator after learning a foreign language.

My choices were pretty limited. I've been at Ft. Knox (KY) and had no interest in going back to KY (wanted me to go to Campbell). Ft. Bragg (NC) and Ft. Wainwright (AK) are both dependent on Airborne status, of which my two relatively bum knees want no part of.

Pretty much I had to chose either Ft. Drum (NY) - pass on the blistering cold weather, Ft. Lewis (WA) - not really interested, or the above or Ft. Hood (TX).

So i asked my branch manager to hopefully get me there. I guess it's somewhat moot since basically its jsut a stepping stone for Iraq and Afghanistan, but curious as to what the place is like if you live near there?

id say ft. bragg.

i dont know where ft. lewis but im from fl and i love seattle its just a great town.

well ft. bragg i MUST go airborne. with the condition of my knees im just not that into jumping out of airplanes for the last two years of my military service :(

Fort Hood is a nice place and is fairly close to Austin.
On it's own it is in BFE but it is only about 2hrs and change from DFW and a little closer to my place. Myabe you could come by a LAN session HO!

i chose ft. hood. unless by some chance i dont do well on my final speaking exam in six months then i can be sent anywhere. looks lke im going to 4th id.

Killeen is a small city or large town depending on if you lump it with Temple(its next door neighbor) or not. It's right next to the interstate and about an hour from Austin.

Its got some great back roads and a local drag strip.
Its one of those towns that is very military-centric.
Geography is interesting...north is rolling grass hills, south is the desert, east is the pine forests and west is the hill country. Very diverse if you like outdoor sports/camping. There is still room to stretch out...it takes the better part of a day to just to get out of the state. Try driving clear across from one end to the other and it might kill you.
Nice, mild winters are counterbalanced by brutal summers. But for 10 months of comfort, I'll trade the 2 months of fire.
And Texans are, on a whole, a whole lot friendlier then anywhere else I've lived(8 states and three foreign countries) or visited.
No state income tax and a reasonable sales/property taxes.

campbell is close to nashville!! about 45 minutes. We have a 1/8 mile strip. hhhmmm and we have lost of walmarts!!!!

haha i think kileen has the 1/4 strip...1/8 mile sucks :) are you in the army or what? or were?

I was now Im DOD but I still live here. And the 1/4 mile track is about an hour away. Were also about 3 hrs from Memphis and St.Louis!! Maybe youll reconsider? s*** its worth a shot!

So it can get cancelled. Ft.Campbell needs highspeed troops such as yourself. Plus 101st patch is a hell of alot cooler lookin!! isnt it?

As long as you used to own one its cool. Everyone else minus Adam are real dick heads that think a CAI adds 50+ hp.I laugh as I creep by them.
