Hi guys im looking at getting a new engine within a week and i cant spot the differences in the pictures between the FSDE and the FSZE. If someone could enlighten me on the noticable differences that would be great. I know the FSZE has higher compression which im not looking for since i have a msp and its turbo and im thinking ill blow it up at 8psi. And what are the cam differences between the FS DET and the FSDE i was under the assumption that there are no difference between the FSDE and FS DET other than the callaway turbo kit? I know the intake manifold is better on the FSZE than the FSDE but dont know the differences in picture.

Cams are the same in USDM FSDE motors, JDM FSDE will have a different intake cam. FSZE has a black resonator box on the intake manifold, easiest way to spot one.

I bought the car with a lot of stuff missing and the engine was half taking apart and im not to familar with mazdas in general any help would be greatly appreciated

is there a reason you need a new motor? is it just the short block? if so, just get any USDM 2001+ FS motor and swap over all your MSP specific items. done.

I don't understand what you are asking? All those motors you linked are FSZE motors, but you want a regular USDM FSDE?

I traded my 2008 Kawasaki ZX6R Stunt Bike for a 2003.5 MSP with a hole in the block from when the previous owner blew it up. Half the parts were in the trunk and half were missing but it still was a good deal for me because the bike had only a parts title thats it, the MSP i traded for has a clean and clear title. I just want to put in the fs-de and swap all my turbo msp stuff but everyone i can find ether dosnt have them in stock or its the high compression FS-ZE. Which at this point im probably just going to turbo the FS-ZE with the MSP parts and keep it at 6psi with a boost controller.

The head is also junk all the intake valves are bent and the previous owner tossed it around or something.

I just got off the phone with nick (AWESOME GUY) and yeah im thinking im gonna have to lower the compression with an extremely thick headgasket going from 9.1:1 to 10.4:1 with those stock rods will not last long. Or i just dont run the turbo and leave it NA. What do you guys think?

Just get a fsde from a junk yard and switch parts . As far as I know yes it will bolt up just internals and intake differ.

with the price of them them now, you could just buy a mtx protege 5 or es and snipe everything you need from that. the only things specific that i know of the msp fsde would be the main bearing support plate which is tapped for the turbo oil return and the liquid cooled oil cooler. you could pull a motor out of a p5 and swap these two parts and have a bonified msp.
obviously all the turbo stuff and plumbing as well.

buying fsze is a waste of money unless you WANT the NA hp. if you plan to stay boosted its an absolute waste as you would also need the ecu among other things.
so buy a p5, pull a bunch of parts off it and scrap the rest. motor/trans, windshield ect ect ect.
Im starting to see them for 2k.

and as for building your motor if thats the route you will take... there are a lot of good build threads on this subforum to help with your task with a lot of good information. just take a couple weeks to read up on this car before you touch it cause there are definitely some things to know.

Yeah after doing a lot of reading i found 2 different proteges in the junkyard and im making a day out of going to both the junkyards and pulling which ever one looks better and just rebuilding it, swapping all the turbo stuff and calling it a day.

I meant buy the whole car. Then you don't have to worry about transporting it hah. That works too though.
