i bought them off tiger direct. came off a biostar motherboard, no company specific. will work with anything that has an agp-pci slot

i know a ton about computers, but since i am not a gamer i don't now a damn thing about video cards

is that 5200 comparable to a ATI 9800Pro?

my roomates son just killed his and needs something in that range to replace it with

the 9600 i believe has dvi out as appose to the dual vga on the 5200. as long as you dont need dvi, it will work. i played numerous games with the 5200, and never had a problem. just decided to upgrade to dvi so i can watch and play games on my plasma.

I'd still take the 9600 (especially 9600 Pro) over the 5200, but I'm here to tell ya it's a good deal on some cards. If I could use them I'd be all over it.

If you are plannig to play games, this might actually not be what you need.

AGP is not common much. You should check the motherboard.

If it's PCI-E and you are worried about cost, the ASUS 7600GS is cheap cheap and runs modern games very well (at medium levels)

Oh yeah, don't expect much out of these for any newer games, but they'd make good cards for the average surfing system if you have an AGP slot, especially for the price.

someone come get these, or they wind up in the trash in the mornin. and alot of motherboards still have one agp slot, my biostar is new as of august of last year, and it still has a agp slot on it. i played war rock, rainbow six, and a bunch of first person shooter games with the agp. worked pretty damn good.

5200 is an office card really, I used to play tons of games on one, but its pretty lame these days compared to the low ass prices out there. AGP is still available but not for long as we shift into a PCI only world steadily. the 32mb would be great for someone word processing, but thats about it. If the kid in question plays older games....like 4 or 5 years old then the 5200 would be acceptable. I've been through 6 video cards in four years, finally ending on a 7950 GX2 before I switch to the newer Directx 10 cards for another $700, which I spent only last summer on my current one.

I agree with ehkart, the 5200 is a horrible performer and in no way shape or form is it comparable to a 9800pro, or even a 9600... infact it's not even comparable to a 9200 either.. the primary reason can be attributed to the fact that nvidia decided to slap SM2.0 on a card that can't handle it, and althrough the 9200 only has SM1.3 support, since it dosent have to handle the extra eye candy, it runs better than the 5200..

$20 is a good deal, but don't buy either if you plan or using it past solitaire.

well, i played alot of first person shooter games online and never had any issues with it. even had it hooked up vga 2 vga on my plasma. picture wasnt that bad. words were a little blurry, but could still make them out. videos and such were awesome. clear as HD. as opposed to the 32mb, never played games on it, worked great with autocad, even the newer versions.

i built the pc for him a while back, it is an epox 8k7a mobo, so it only has agp on it

i will see how much he wants to spend and maybe get back to you
