front mount and cold air intake

a quick question guys my buddy keeps telling me i would have to get a short ram intake if im gonna go frount mount intercooler, is this true i told him no cuz ive seen some with both!! how true is this thanks!!

well the mscai works with cobbs, and the cp-e cai works with theres. i guess depends on which fmic and which cai but some work with others. i cant say i have ever flat out heard one wont work with a fmic.

dude just get the cheapest SRI, like cobb or something, cuz intercooler cools the air not the itake. regardless CAI or SRI the air that come in to the turbo is still gonna be hot.

dont waiste ur money on CAI.

Our CorkSport FMIC includes a ram air short ram style intake which replaces the top mount intercooler with a thermally isolated box. Two birds, one stone.

On a CAI its takes a little more to get it heatsoaked since it sits low and out of the engine bay, whereas a SRI sits up in the hot ass engine bay so it picks up hot air as soon as you stop. the air going into the turbo will be HOTTER than a CAI in that case which means higher BAT's and less performance. I wouldnt go as far as saying a CAI is a waste of money.

OP I have a cai with a cpe fmic and theres plenty of room in there still....

+1 CAI = lower BAT, especially after sitting at traffic lights or in the staging lanes at the dragstrip.

Every degree you gain on the front end at the filter is a degree gained forever because the intercooler is less than 100% efficient.

Is the difference great? Most of the time no. Some of the time not at all. Some of the time HUGE.

Ay ay ay, lets please not turn this into a CAI vs. SRI deathmatch, lol. I have an SRI, but wouldn't say a CAI is a waste of money, it all depends on what the buyer wants.

no deathmatch, just putting out the raw facts for people to know whats true and what is complete B/S or opinions of someone... MSMS3- thats exactly my point. If you start with lower temps at the filter you have lower temps at the turbo. FMIC or not.

When the car is moving intake temps go down dramatically and are within 2-4 degrees from real ambient temps. Those 2-4 degree cooler temps you might get with a CAI amount to absolutely dick when it comes down to it. This air is going thru a turbo (HOT as hell) and then passing thru an intercooler to cool it down. Like I said, save your money and the headache and buy an SRI.
