2012 Mazda Mazdaspeed3
Hello everyone,

I'm in the USAF and I just currently returned from 2 years in Germany. I wasn't liking my 2008 Hyundai Elantra so I went out car shopping yesterday. Looked at the Hyundai Genesis, Mitsubishi Lancer, Mazdaspeed 3 and the new Hyundai Veloster and I fell in love with the MS3. 5 mins after rolling off the car lot I was at an auto parts store buying a K&N filer for her. If there is any information that you could help me with please do. I'm new to Mazdas but not to tuning.Thank you. (blackp5)

Welcome to the forums and Congrats on buying a new Speed3 over your other choices..if your looking to do some tuning..that will depend on how far your willing to take it, I personally like the Hypertech tuner for its simplicity..I already know that you can only get so much power out of the tiny Ko4 turbo.. so why push it past the point of being efficient. A Cobb access port would be another choice that I have seen good numbers from..if your wanting to use there maps, tune it youself or have it pro tuned and do some data logging. There are several good vendors that carry some really nice parts for our Mazdas..I like alot of Corksports stuff. ;)

O'h yeah I almost forgot, get a rear motor mount for this little torque monster soon..these cars need it!!!

Welcome to the forum! (2thumbs) Congrats on the new car purchase.

A very popular mod for the Speed3 is a rear motor mount (RMM). I waited until 80,000 miles to replace mine and I'm wishing I had done it much much sooner.

welcome. im on my second spd3. had the 08 that is on my avatare. and now have an 11 in liq silv. am tinting the windows and have a set of sacci 5 spokes to put on. no powerr ups for now . cars fast enough .

Cujo,

Screen name looks familiar, were you on EXD or Elantraclub?

I had a 07 Elantra that was good, but trans and suspension issues along with dealer support wasn't what I liked. I went with a MZ3 so I could carry more cargo when I wanted.

lol yeah I was on EXD and I'm still on Hyundai Aftermarket. I just got my window's tinted and I plan on getting the SURE intake here on the 15th... I'll order my RMM when I get to Panama City.

Welcome and thanks for your service!! There's lots of options available for you. Rear motor mount, short ram intake, and inlet pipe are common first 3 mods and for good reason. We have a pretty big selection so check us out if you'd like. We are here to help understand the car, what works, what doesn't and make sure to help people do it right. The Cobb AP will make the car come alive along with a downpipe. Fuel pump is important to upgrade early on if you plan on anything over about 275whp. You definitely picked the best car out of all that you looked at lol. Good job.

I thought I recognized the screen name. Aaron also is on here as well.

Another decent mod you can do is change out the exhaust system between the rear muffler and rear cat. Eliminating the 2 resonators can improve the power of the engine. Unlike Hyundai, Mazda gets more out of that mod.

I know there is a devise you can get to improve throttle response with the drive by wire system on the Mazda. It is a small electronic box you wire in between the gas pedal and the throttle solenoid. A couple locals here have one and they say it allows the throttle to have a quicker reaction.

Welcome to the forums. I have to ask what did you think of the Veloster? Heard they have a turbo version coming out this year or next.
