I think BMW had to go to a V8 to be able to make more HP and torque and to stay competive(sp). The S54 I6 was at its limit for HP from the factory. Both the Audi S4 and AMG C55 have V8s.

Do you mean in the 3 series or throught the line?

Haven't thw 5/6/7 have been running V8s for a long time? 540 for example.

The reality is that you can only massage a 6 cyclinder so far before it gets into some problem areas, especialy for a luxury car.

I just wonder when the hell is Acura going to figure this one out. hopefully the RL's terrible sale numbers gets them going in the right direction

The large BMWs have been running V8s since the early 90s. I'm talking about the next e91 M3 coupe.

Acura needs to get a clue and replace the v6 in the RL/Legend with their V8.

This will help them compete with the RS4 when it's released. I just drove a 2006 M3 for the first time and that thing is pretty much perfect IMO. There is such thing as too much HP when it comes to balance. Anything over 400 hp in that chassis will start to be rediculous in that chassis on the street.

As far as a turbo goes, I would rather have a well balanced N/A M3 than a 1000 hp turbo M3.

i guess the v8's a good move. although if they're gonna turbo the 335ci anyway, why not put that motor in the m3?

I am totally for them going to a V8. If its anything like the past M cars, im sure they will do it right.

I think that having the same basic engine as a lesser model (335i) simply with more power would kill some of the prestige in having an m3. Also, with the price the next one is expected to hit (close to 60 or more ive heard) it damn well better have its own engine
