Fram ToughGuard TG3614 and Mazda3

Hi, just wanted to give a bit of a warning to everyone who considers this filter. I discovered an oil leak about 2000 miles after the oil change. Upon inspection it looks like the gasket diameter is too small - the gasket only partially touches the mounting surface. When comparing the Mazda filter to Fram, you can easily see how much smaller the diameter of Fram's gasket is. I usually use OEM filters, but I had two of these Frams that I got together with oil on sale. Interestingly, this same filter is also used on a 2001 Lexus ES 300, and when compared to the Toyota OEM filter, the gasket is too small as well. But I haven't yet looked at the Lexus' mounting surface to see if the gasket would cover it completely or not.

With Fram filters, you get what you pay for. I would never put a Fram product on any of my vehicles.

I have been very satisfied using purolator Pure One filters in all my cars. My 2012 Mazda, my wife's 2008 Mazda, and my old 2004 Toyota all had full synthetic oil withe this filter changed twice per year, which is more frequent than needed, with no issues.
