...I'm wondering: what brand of gas do you use?
Almost all of the gasoline in this country is made in four or five refineries and pumped into the national distribution system. What differentiates BP or Shell from Huck's or 7-11 or any other "stop-n-go" brand? The additives put in at the regional distribution points. If BP pumps a million gallons in today, they'll take out x gallons at one of their distribution points, put in their additives, and it becomes "BP" gas. Shell will take out Y gallons, put in their additives, and it becomes "Shell" gas.
So the question for those of you getting "bad" gas mileage is: "What brand of gasoline do you use?" If you're trying to save $0.02 a gallon, you may be paying for it in low gas mileage.
I use, in order, BP, Shell, Texaco, or Exxon. If I can't get those, I'll only put in enough to get me to a BP, Shell, Texaco, or Exxon station (hasn't happened in years). I've gotten between 18 and 22 mpg in the CX-7 since I've had it, except the tank where I verified the 117 mph limiter (I got 16 mpg on that tank). I get at least 26 mpg on the Miata, regardless of how hard I flog it, and as much as 32 when I'm not.
