FM Turbo Protege Dyno!

...The car needs a stronger feul pump...

Is this why they didn't run it at 8psi? I don't think Wshades car had a different feul pump and it seemed to run great!

I wonder what this means for me? (waiting for BEGI kit in the mail)
:confused:

Scott are you keeping the borsal exhuast or upgrading to a custom bent?

"Borsal" hehe:cool:

The kit and the exhaust should come at the same time. The Bosal exhaust is 2.25 stainless steal and the pre-cat will be replaced by a straight pipe.

I didn't really want to go with the custom bent piping because I really really don't like the shop out here that's known for custom exhaust fabrication on imports. Besides, Bosal is a quality product.

Why, what's up?

BEGI = 149 whp @ 6 psi
Spoolin = 203 whp @ 7.5 psi

hmmm me thinks no BEGI. 149 are good numbers dont' get me wrong but I will eb able to pull that out of my setup when i'm done.

They weren't testing at 8psi. They blamed that on a weak feul pump. But also remember that this was on a stock car without ANY other mods. The number would be a bit higher than 149 at full potential.

Take a look at Spoolins other mods. He's got one heck of a car. But you have to compare apples with apples here.

Just my 2 cents..:cool:

Screw HP...look a TORQUE! Look how early it is! MAX TORQUE (173) at 3400rpm or so. WOW!

HP would increase with better exhaust.

I am thinking about getting the Borsal, Borla or racing beat exhuast, Both Borla and Bosal say their kits are 2.25" but racing beats is 2.375. and good on price. Is the replacement for the precat with the bosal kit?

I'm sorry, did I say pre-cat? I meant the 2nd Cat.... The only real way to get rid of the pre-cat is to have a straight pipe fabricated... But yes, from what I've heard, the Bosal exhaust comes with a "test pipe" that will replace the 2nd cat.

Do any of the turbo'ed mp3's or p5's have an aftermarket fuel pump?

What about buying a header to replace the pre-cat? Several companys are coming out with headers for our cars.
Just do a search and you will find a few threads about them.

And actually Bosal makes Two different exhaust for the protege unless they have changed their ways.
They make the Federal Version which has the "test pipe" with a resonator and they make the California version which deletes the resonator but adds a high flow cat instead of the "test pipe".

Thanks for the correction MP3-O..

I'm not sure, when I ordered mine, they didn't ask me which version I'd like. I'll have to contact them and see.
:confused:

what the hell is a test pipe, exactly? and how is it different from a cat.

A "test pipe" is just a piece of pipe that replaces the cat.
Here is a picture of it...

Those torque numbers are WAY over what Mazda is showing for the MS Protege. 170+ AT THE WHEELS for the BEGI kit...whereas the Mazda site shows 140 ft lbs at the flywheel. That's a big difference.

Also, HP is just torque at high RPM. That BEGI kit dyno retains ALL stock exhaust (even the precat) so it's likely very restrictive. I am willing to bet when they get the new exhaust on there the HP will jump significantly.

Let's not compare Spoolins numbers to BEGI's. Also remember that these numbers that we're seeing aren't BEGI final numbers, they are tuning their project car. So only time can tell what they'll end up with. I'm sure once they use larger diameter piping and adjust the fuel accordingly we'll see better WHP numbers. Don't get me wrong, I'd still be happy with the numbers they're getting right now. Remember guys, they have both cats and the resonator still on the car. By just removing the second cat, I bet you'd see an increase in HP.

so true, so true...let's hope they get on the other mods soon. I cant wait to see what they're up to. Wshade could dyno and give us a better idea of the BEGI with mods...
