Doc dropped his RX-8 off at my shop last Monday for me to fix. Like my other body shop threads, I'll keep you guys updated on the process!

Had a free afternoon today, so I got it clamped down, rough pulled, and got the drivetrain out. It all needed to come out so I can access the frame rails to replace them.

The driver side rail was so kinked, it started ripping when I pulled it back over. lol

Stay tuned!

He hasn't dropped it off yet. We needed to make some rough pulls first, to see what kind of plan we were going with.

Got the donor car gutted this morning. :) Forgot to get before pics, but I'm sure you've all seen a stock RX-8. lulz

A little unorthodox, but hey....gotta work with what ya got!

Also, found some damage behind the headlight that was just roughed out enough to get the headlight/fender/bumper to fit. I'll have to get with Mark to see what he wants to do with this.

Thanks to Marc for sticking around and lending a hand!

Maybe my untrained eyes are overlooking it, but what's wrong with the donor car? Other than that pass front headlight area.

Nothing. lol Well, it needed a good cleaning, and it wasn't in tip top running shape, but it was a perfectly good car.

The thing is, a front clip for this car would've cost at least $2500, and all it comes as is like this....

For what he has in this entire car, I can cut out what I need, he can part out the rest, and end up paying a fraction of the price of just a junkyard clip. :)

A part out? I might be interested in the wheels and tires.
Looking good Josh. I grew up around the auto body business and the whole process is still amazing to me.

There wasn't much wrong with the donor, and I would have fixed it. BUT I bought the donor for less than the cost of a front clip by itself. SO Yes there is going to be a part out. If anyone is interested in any parts, let me know before we start putting them up on Ebay, etc. The donor is an automatic, but we have a number of parts from the original tearout of my racecar. I have 2 manual trannies also.

Doc

Josh, I'm a bit surprised by the condition of that passenger side. We knew something was up there. Did you drain my tranny?? If so, I need to bring you fluids.

And got the rest of the stuff gutted from the donor, and cleaned out the seam sealer so I could see/get to the welds.
