First Stick

HAHA.... I've actually thought this before too... my girl laughs at me when I do it.... I swear it adds 5 HP!

LMFAO .... Yea, i do it all the time, whenever i see someone with those huge wings and a coffee can exhaust tip, I look at her and say " I think he wants to race Black Sexy" (what I dubbed my Mica black 5sp. P5:p ) and she looks at me like I am ******* nuts.

is it a bad thing to cruise down a hill in N? both auto and std.? i hurd it was bad but i dunno for sure

I also shake the shifter at stops. And I always grab the e brake and click the button. But I do it to frighten my friends who remember the times I used to do ebrake u-turns in my old car. hehehe.
As far as the being in neutral down hill I would not do it. With the car in neutral it is much harder to avoid accidents since it takes away from your response time on the gas. And if their is a turn down the hill downshifting allows you to get through it wicked fast. But not everybody enjoys driving like that.

Just a few points

I love driving a manual unless I am stuck in Gridlock traffic.

KEEP BOTH HANDS ON THE STEERING WHEEL, AT 9 AND 3 O'CLOCK POSITION

It must be different in Virginia. In Florida they said 10 and 2, not 9 and 3. Whatever works, though.

it must be something engrained in our subconscience mind...I think EVERYONE that drives a stick, when they pop it into NEUTRAL shakes it back and forth a little...

Yep. I do it, too. Get in the car and pull the shifter to the left towards my leg. When I go to the track before I stage in the lane I shaker the shifter back and forth quite a bit. Guess it's just the adrenaline. :D:D

Happy shifting.

It's not a good idea mainly because it is harder on your brakes when you decide to stop/slow down.By putting the car in neutral you are taking away valuable engine braking. Having the car in gear actually helps to slow the car down. It is a good practice to use engine braking all the time when slowing down/stopping. For the automatic, you should leave it in drive all the time unless you need more engine braking (ie. going down a large hill, driving in heavy rain, ect.) then you should put it in a lower gear until conditions return to normal.
