Well I finally got to take my 5 down to the tracks and it actually turned out better then I thought. I went down early (as soon as the tracks opened:D ) so that there would not be that many people. I went down four times and this was my result.

My first run I pulled a 16.932 @ 80.61 mph. - reaction .636 - 60 ft. 2.460 - 1/8th mile et 10.823 @ 63.81 mph -

I was expecting mid to low 17's so I was pleasantly surprised with my first run and went back in line immediatly!

My second run was 17.099 @ 79.95 mph. - reaction .640 - 60 ft. 2.536 - 1/8th mile et 10.983 @ 63.21 mph -

Both of the above runs were against a 13 sec. mustang so needless to say there was no competion!

The third run (my best run of the night) I got a pretty good launch. Not too much wheel spin, no wheel hop (BAD!), and I did not bog. I pulled a 16.890 @ 81.09 mph. - reaction .655 - 60 ft. 2.425 - 1/8th mile et 10.023 @ 64.19 mph -

The third run was against a 10 sec. camero:( .

My fourth and final run I finally got to race a fellow import. It was a del sol which my wife who was sitting in the said that he was running 16.8 all night. Well we came up to the line he did a burnout and I did my normal (drove around the the water box). We both staged, the amber lights came down the tree, I dumped the clutch, and through first gear I pulled about a good half car length. I reached for second and pulled far enough to where I could not see him in my purrefial (spelling?) vision. As I topped out second, I could start to see him coming. I poped it into 3rd and he pulled up a little closer and I started to worry! As we came through the traps I was topping out third gear and was able to hold him off. I was pretty happy and this is the results!

Del Sol Me

.653 Reaction .707

2.606 60 ft. 2.451

11.023 1/8th et 10.878

64.17 1/8th mph 63.58

17.171 1/4 et 17.090

80.32 1/4 mph 79.37

We both ran 4 times in a row and I assume that our times were lower due to the heat build up. Well it was a good race and we both shook hands and acknowledged it was a good race (for 2 slow pokes:D ) Well that's how my night went and I had fun! I haven't been to the tracks in a long time and now I am hooked again!

Good stuff PRO 5

Do you have any mods...did I miss anything?

Nice times...its interesting...I just ran in a friends 2001 Wolfsburg 1.8t stick...I was in the car and the only mod he has is a k&n...he ran from mid 11's to low 11's the whole time (1/8th mile track)...I was riding in the car but we were both not expecting 11's...hoped for 10's...my friend says the stock tires suck and he had quite a bit of wheel spin...the 1.8t produces max tq at 1500rpm...about the timesI don't know...I wasn't impressed.

I've seen those vw's run mid to low 15's (1/4 mile) with a chip and minor bolt-ons...but as in any case...traction is key.

yeah tires make a big difference...we're fairly lucky to have decent tires on our cars when compared to other econo boxes...also consider slight differences in conditions which can make another big difference...temperature, humidity, altitude, etc, etc can dramatically change how the cars will perform...

good stuff though pro5...:D

Thanks guys! As far as mods, I have the Injen CAI, custom cat back exhaust 2.5" piping, and GC coil overs. The car felt really strong in 1st and 2nd gears but once I got into 3rd the car felt real flat on power, which is weird cause ususally 3rd is your pulling gear. I think this is where the tourqe falls off and the HP comes into play. An area where our cars need HELP! All and all it was good to be out there but I definatly got bit by the HP bug. I NEED IT, I WANT IT, I GOT TO HAVE IT!!!!!

What's next? I was thinking cams, header (when ever they come out with one!), ecu (heard M2 will be coming out with one soon), and maybe pistons. I wonder if the cams would work better with the header, cause I've been reading that cams are alright but not as good as expected. Well we shall see what the future holds!
