Heh, thanks Vic.

If you have a stock shifter to send me, shoot me a PM and we can talk about a price. Mine was a lot less than most short shifters available.

Do you have a problem with hitting your seat with your arm going into 2nd cuz of the length?

OMG, thats what im talken about.. havent got a short throw because they lower the stick height..iv modded my stock to be about 1" higher.. you need to make these and sell them..

Nope. Even at the track downshifting into 2nd was fine and I'm 6'

WRC- If I can round up some stock shifters, I'm probably going to do a short run. Need to finish the trailing arms that have been collecting dust aswell...

If there's anybody else, who successfully managed to alter the shifter of his Protege, I'd like to ask you, by how much can one extend the bottom lever of the shifter (beneath the pivot ball)? I mean, how many inches of space is there between the exhaust heat shield and bottom pivot of the stock shifter?
I'd like to modify my shifter as well, but I don't know how far I can go as I've hadn't had the car inspected yet due to cold winter conditions here in Europe.
Thank you for any advice.

if you remove the heat shield, there is probably 2 inches of space between the shifter and exhaust

Thanks a lot for your reply njaremka! Finally someone :-). I estimate that low_psi extended his shifter by 1.5 of the length between the pivot ball and lower pivot which is exactly 2 inches. I'd go for less than 2" of extension as I want to install the heat shield back and keep some reserve there.
What are the long-term experiences with extended shifter? Have some drives had issues with difficult gear shifting, or gears popping out? The lowered bottom pivot may cause some higher friction I'd say.

lowering the bottom pivot will make shifting a little more difficult - simple concept of leverage. if you want to keep the stock shifter height, and fabricate it into a short shifter, i would cut and add about an inch. that would probable give you just the right amount of throw, and still clear the heat shield. you will have to bend the heat shield down a bit, which is an easy task when its all back together. add a heavy weight shift knob, and call it a day.
