Exhaust Specific

I am finally able to invest some money into my P5 :), and just wanted your guys' opinions. Currently I have a stock P5 (just with some small mods) and wanted to know if I added some exhaust, how much performance difference will it make (HP)? Also, what kind of exhaust systems are you guys running and how much was it (possibly where you got it from)?

Thanks a bunch

on the average....about 3-5 Hp at the wheels....

I am running the bosal Cat Back system....got it form Protege5Online.com

don't remember the price right off the top of my head..but was like $380 US. I hear rumors that the system is backordered from the factory till like August though. but its a really nice system. sounds great.

:D

Right now im running just a "homemade" system that i got a local muffler shop to do. Does ok, but could use some improvements. The racing beat and bosal systems seem to be what most people are running and they say that it's only a slight increase. i believe racing beat quoted 4.7HP increase with their system. The skunk2, thermal, and JIC magic systems are also available but they're on the expensive side, $600 and up. For the money the bosal is probably the best bang for the buck...at $350 from protege5online.com. Mine cost around 150 for muffler and over the axle pipe. Im estimating have a cat-back system done for about 200-250.

if you're looking for an exhaust system and you can hold out for a while...greddy is "supposedly" making a system for the P5 and supposed to release at the end of the summer...that would be my first choice but just a warning that greddy systems are generally very expensive (~$500)...but they're the best...

Honza -

I just posted dynos for before/after the AEM Short Ram install on my P5. See Performance section.

As far as exhuast: I know Racing Beat just came out with a cat-back. But if you can be patient - I have a Mazda "Sport Exhaust" on order - I should see that in a week or 2. After I install it, I will re-dyno, and post it (probably in the Performance section again). That way you can see what stock vs. AEM S. Ram Vs. AEM SR plus Mazda Sport Exhuast will do for performance.

Mazda does not like to talk about specific hp numbers on the Sport Exhaust, but after a couple calls to Mazda Customer Service, I got a reply of 3 to 4 hp. If I get close to that the exhaust will be a bargain, because it only costs about $200. I'm skeptical it will give that much of a bump, but I'll find out soon enough.

I've got a 2.5" cat back with a Magnaflow can, done by a local muffler shop. Never dyno'd so I don't know what add'l ponies I picked up, but love the sound and the look of the stainless can. Ran about $250 installed.

(Oh yeah, boss stainless tip peeking out the back from the notch in the rear skirt too.)

JIC Magic makes an exhaust system for the p5???
which type? the bullet's or the spartans?

does anyone know if any other JDM companies have a exhaust system for our car? (HKS, Trust/Greddy, Blitz, 5zigen...etc)

thanx

I believe either rishie or Apex-i can get you the exhaust. Do a search on previous posts they have the prices and availiblity in there. As for the type, I couldn't tell ya. Check bk's post on this thread he mentioned that Greddy is making an exhaust for the p5.

the whole greddy thing is up in the air...that's what i got when i emailed greddy...they basically told me that they hadn't decided whether to produce a system or not...but if they did indeed decide to produce a system then it would be out at the end of the summer or sometime around there
