Exhaust Hitting My Cross Member!

I just got a 3 in j pipe back installed. The exhaust is about 1/4" away from the cross member. When I during the car on, it'll tap the cross member. Under acceleration or moving from a stop, it was rattle pretty bad. So I'm thinking I can do one of these:

-Grind the cross member down a little for some space
-Put some rubber/padding material to stop the sound

What do you guys think?

best way to fix this is to get some kart boy exhaust hangers and bend the hangers on the exhaust pipe down(out) to hold it further away from the xmember...

did the same w/ my CS exhaust, i think thats a problem plenty of peeps have...

your solutions are more work than necessary.

Hm..the hangers on the exhaust are freaking thick as hell..How did you bend them?

Also my hangers are shaped like a U with sharp turns...would I be able to squeeze the hangers in?

I'm not sure if it's the front part of the flex joint thats hitting or behind the flex joint. If it's in front, I don't think the hangers would help..I'll look when I get home

believe me, its what im saying, its a known issue ;) you would bend them using a large open-ended wrench

Grinding is too much work, rubber may melt, but it can help.

What I did was buy some big washers and bolt them in between my cross member and the body. this will drop the cross member a little and make some room to work with. Just make sure you bolt it in tighter since you are creating some space and the bolts don't go in as far. those bolts are really big, so don't worry if you over tighten a little.

Ohhh, nice! I will try this out first then since it's least work and money lol. Thanks alot man! Is there ratings on washers like there are on bolts? Does it matter what material it is or it doesn't matter at all? Thanks again!

you think thats easier than bending a couple of hangers? (crazy) lol

you could first try bending the hangers coming off the car body, that would be the simplest, cheapest route. Just bend them up and it will move that section of the exhaust up and closer to the underside of the car...

ohh, you're talking about the hangers on the car body! I was thinking the hangers on the exhaust! They're like a thick ass stainless rod lol. Ok, both things won't hurt. I'll let you guys know how it goes!
