what cat back exausts are avalible for the protege5's? i got an intake and would like to get a new exaust as well, ive heard people talking about mazdaspeed exausts but are they cat back? any noticeable gains? i don't want a fart pipe just a one that will get me more power. BTW the more silent the exaust the better, i actually want the exaust to be quieter than stock but i don't think thats gonna happen

for starters, the mazdaspeed exhause is NOT a cat back...

and you are NOT going to find an aftermarket exhaust that is going to give you any gains....and remain as quiet as stock...so if you want quiet....well...you have it already.

a good quiet exhaust and you can make into a catback is the ApexI Dunk universal. Just run 2.25 mandrel bent piping to it and there you go. SHouldn't cost more than 100 at a muffelr shop to do the work.

I had an apexi muffler with 2.5 inch piping then I changed to the hks universal muffler. Man I highly reccomend it!!! That darn thing is so deep and quite!! The apexi was a little to loud and raspy for my taste. I do have turbo and that does lower the decibals a bit but when I upgraded to the HKS I took out all my cats and went to 3 inch piping and it was still more quite than the apexi with 2.5 inch piping and cats!!!!

I will try to post pics of the HKS............man its nice and HKS quality ofcourse!!!

The Dunk if far from quiet. Of course that's coming from my experience with Hondas, so maybe the result will be different on the Protege. One person's idea of quiet maybe too loud for another. So I say stick with what you've heard before. If you have the MP3, you can just get larger piping in the mid section and increase the inlet piping diameter to the Racing Beat muffler. Or you can just buy the Racing Beat midsection. The Bosal is nice sounding too. Either way you look at it, don't expect to gain any more than 4-6 whp from a bolt on exhaust system. I wouln't go as far as to say that "no exhaust will net you gains".

Go with the Thermal. That is what I'm putting on. They produce a nice deep smooth exhaust tone that's not too loud and no it doesn't sound farty. Of course they don't make a cat-back exhaust system and what I want to know is why do u want to pay that kind of money when u can get a muffler shop to make u one for a lot cheaper and is just as good. All you need to to is buy a universal muffler, take it to a muffler shop, tell them what u want and it will be just as good as aftermarket and cheaper. One word THERMAL :D

the new issue of turbo magazine has a red p 5 w/ stock dyno runs and dyno runs w/ hks filter and there new bad ass exhaust it looks really nice pic up the mag and check it out i was suprised that the p5 put 123 to the wheels stock...
