In 2.5 or 2.7 displacement. Modified obviously, it's a drag racer. Sleeved block etc etc etc. If your looking for a stock "STi" engine in this class of drag racer, won't happen. The point is the block/engine family are all swappable in components. Cranks, heads (SOHC, DOHC), rods, flywheels etc etc. Proving long time durability. Hang on to the thought the STi is untested. i'm not going to reply to your remarks any longer. as far as i can tell, the engine in the easy street wrx started from a wrx engine, not the sti engine. how does this relate to anything you have to say? it's absolutely pointless to continue this discussion if you're not going to bring anything to the table.

STi Test Drive

Drove the STi today. Damn what a car! It makes my MSP pale with respect to power and acceleration! That car is a beast! I friggin' loved every minute of it. The sales rep took me on an extended test drive so I got to do some highway km as well as some backroads stuff. It took a bit of getting used to the boxer sound and feel, but after that it was all good. Pretty much instant power, and ALL that you want of it. It handles quite nicely, but I have to say that the suspension is pretty stiff. It is noticeably stiffer than my MSP and my MSP (with the updated rear sway bar bushings) handles like a go-kart. Didn't get an opportunity to play with the DCD for front/rear power split. I wish that they sold the Evo VIII in Canada so that I could compare all three, but the STi is a dream car for sure, and definitely in a league above my MSP (as much as it kills me to say that...LOL!).

Since they are pretty scarce here in Ottawa, the dealer quoted me a finance price of $1047 CAN taxes in at 5.8% APR for 5 yrs with $0 down. That was with a measly $1500 off the listed $46995 CAN list price cause I knew the guy (not very well with that pittance...LOL!). Lease for 3 yrs with $0 down was $1039 CAN taxes in with a closed lease residual of 23747.50 and 8.8% APR. I guess they REALLY want you to buy, rather than lease, the car. Either way, it is a pretty steep monthly hit on the pocketbook. Not only will the kids have to eat lint, but I might have to find a coal mine to put 'em to work in as well...LOL! At least with the finance, I walk away with a car at the end. Keep it in good shape and I imagine that it would be worth more than they suggest. It's an STi goddamnit!

Thats exactly what happened to me. One test drive and I was sold.

Not only will the kids have to eat lint,
My new diet consists of Campbell's soup and Chef Boy-R-Dee spaghetti cans. (lol2)

I think those Roman Noodles are cheaper. (shrug)

what if the MSP was 280 horses.. what than? I love my msp and will be glad when the day comes when I beat both of those cars.

Now that is an interesting proposition

While I DID love the STi, if the MSP had 280 little ponies under it's hood, just itching to go for a gallop I would be hard pressed to go for the STi especially with the price premium. While the MSP may not be a world class rally car dumbed down for the street, the Protege has managed to hold it's own in the touring car (?) class and it is a very capable autocross vehicle. With 280 HP and equivalent torque rating it would definately be a force to be reckoned with and my decision would be much harder.

I'm going to have to agree here. With the MSP at 280 there would be no need to purchase an STI. BUT if the MSP were 280, I'm thinking the cost would be higher.

One reason they do dominate is because of suspension and no boosted cars allowed.
