engine...

[stuck]

Hey all,
When I first start my car, my RPM's jump up to about 2k and stay there until I put the car into reverse or drive. it's an auto. What is goin' on?

how long does it stay at 2k for? Is it just during cold starts?

yeah, i would hope it only does that for the first couple of minutes after starting......that would be normal. maybe a little high though.....

yeah, it only does it on cold starts, when the car hasn't been started for hours, like overnight. Never really sat around to find out how long it lasts. I usually rev it a bit and that makes it driop a little. Any suggestions or comments?

start it and let it sit for 5 min
once it warms up it will idle down
they did this so it can get to operating temp faster so the emmisions will work better..
