Engine swap possibilities....

As far as engine swap possibilities are concerned, I've been thining that the new 4 out of the mazda six would be a good option (other than trying to squeeze in the six cylinder).
Hey, MP3_moran, is that a CF hood? Is it gold mesh?

as far as the 2.3 from the m6 ... it would be a waste of money and time it only has 10 hp more than our engines... it is nice and it has vvt but its not a smary choice when you take money into account..

i know this is an old thread but i'm curious to know if anyone put the duritec engine in their car yet. and how much it would cost for me, (a person w/ no conections to help out), to put it in my car. and how hard would it be. thanks

KLZE swap

Hi, Im new to this board but I thought I would share some good info for you guys. I own a 95 MX6 4 cyl, which is very similar to your MP3/5 and I notice some of you are thinki9ng about doing a KLZE swap. As you may already know the KLZE is the JSpec 6 cyl for the MX6 and this swap should be very fesable for the MP3/5 considering is has been put in the MX6, Probe, and even a few MX3s. This Link will help to answer some of the more common questions you might have. Or you can try going to the MX6.com forum and Probetalk forum to find out more info on the KLZE or FSZE (JSpec 4 cyl). Cork Sport is a good place to get JSpec parts, but they are kinda pricey you can also try Adelaide Japanese Dismantlers, throught Adelaide you can order parts, but most likely you'll be put on a waiting list. Also, with Adelaide you pay in Aus dollars so it works out to be cheaper. Japanese Dismantlers is also another good place to look for JSpec motors.

how about in a prot5? (sorry if the answer is obvious, im not a "motorhead")

is the engine mounts the same as the mp3?

if so all of the above will mount on the prot5's tanny or engine bay?!

...cant wait till the waranty wears off ;)

i'm pretty sure all 2.0 bays are the same. the mounts shouldn't be in differents places.

think about it like this: a pro5 is, for all practical purposes, a 3rd gen protege with a hatch. anything under the hood should be the same.

just to let u guys know

the new Mazda 6 will come with 2 options for motors:

the 2.3L DOHC 16v inline 4 will have 160hp @6000rpm and 155torque at 4000rpm

also the mazda 6 u can get the V6 3.0L DOHC with 220hp and 192torque

:D

hERE IS A FRESH IDEA. sorry for the caps. Try a 2.3 miller cycle high compression supercharges engine. You can find it in the millenia s. It has 210hp stock. It is also a wenkel design.

I'm with chdesign on this one. Go with the FE3 and boost the s*** out of it. You will most likely be able to **** all the other motors that have been mentioned above. Only problem is trying to find one. Good luck with whatever you decide to do, TECHNICAL 5

The Gopher has failed. I cant find GOOD links on the FE3. Sure, I can get a bunch of old Miatapower and miatanet threads that really say nothing, but dammit I want a specs/apps page!!! Anyone have a link to a good detailed FE3 page? Even if it's an app in a 2200 or something?

I'm so, so sorry.

Ask for a good link in the probetalk forums i'm sure they have a good one post it in the 1st gen section and you shoudl get a responce.

thanks, ill do that

How much money would a turbocharged stock FE3 Engine cost and how much time would it take to put into an MP3. Wouldnt you need a new tranny also?

Yes, it would be a "front end" replacement. You'd also need (unless you chose to replace it, which I would) the radiator. All powertrain components would need to be changed. However with an engine replacement, it's the perfect time to upgrade. The first change I would make would be the quaiffe LS or locking differential, good motor mounts, aluminum radiator, more powerful fuel pump, and replacement of the lower transverse beam. Hey, if the motor's out, the work is easy!

MX3's with KL-ZE's will run 14.0 sec quarter mile easy.
And there is nothing like the feel of a v6 in a light car.

As for fit, I know of several people who have fit the mazda v6 into 323's.

...and if the Mazda v6 fits into a MX3, it will definitely fit into a Protege. In fact, I bet the MX3 engine mounts would be a good starting point for harnessing the engine.

What ever happened to the dude who started this thread? I wonder how he's doing with his project! I was wondering though, would it be cheaper to build our motor up (forged pistons, forged rods, crank, etc.) or to swap in the FE3 (cost of mounting engine, wiring, transmission, etc.). I know that the FE3 is a better platform to start with but how much would it cost to put it in compaired to making our engine strong enough to handle more boost.
I know that our engine's don't flow that well but I was just throwing that idea out there.

Update:
I spoke to my dealer about swapping out the 200hp V6 from the Tribute.
Pricing (for my dealer) shipped to their door is as follows. For each, it is bare bones (no internals) as I would want to replace all stock parts (pistons, rods, cams) with aftermarket stuff. I could also go to junkyard for small stuff, there are just four things I want brand new and stock:

Short Block: $1513.65 #AF03-02-200

5-spd tranny:
--Case: $365.00 #65PO-17-100
--Bell: $520.00 #65PO-17-150A

Upper gaskets: $150.00 #AJ03-10-SFO (I think SFO, I'll have to double check that, the tech has terrible writing)

So total for basic internals is $2548.65. The rest of the tranny could come from our proteges, and the LSD from Quaiffe.

From this we get a 200bhp block and tranny housing ready for an est 10psi regular running. I will start on fitment issues when I actually get a hold of somebody at Mazda USA that knows what the **** they're talking about (which could take weeks).

Just wanted to get some folks drooling.

Here is a LINK that gives all the specs for the FE3. Also as far as the 2.3 KJ Miller Cycle, it has almost the same power output as the KLZE, but they're rare and expensive. The ZE would be a lot less hassle, cheaper, easier to install, also there's not much mod potential in the KJ, whereas you can still mod a fair bit of power out of the KLZE, so I'd say it's the better choice by far. Also the KJ only came with auto's, so you might run into trouble with the ecu if you drop it in a manual. Also with the KJ you will probably have to do something different with the hood, because the intake manifold sits higher. If you want to go for max power I would say go with the ZE and twin turbo it good for about 400 hp.

Just my 2 cents
