Engine just dropped from my Mazdaspeed3 for the SECOND time!

now i dont have a MS3 but my first mod was the Rear MM on my 6 especailly after hearing the horror stories from the 3 crowd.. the stock mount sucks balls.. ill see if i can show u a pic of the 2 next to eachother, one stock, one aftermarket and maybe then ull understand why u need a mount no matter if under warrenty or not.

The MS6 and MS3 mounts are different.

Sorry to hear...

Sorry about the second drop but let me say this...

NEVER TRUST THE DEALERSHIP. Thats right...just because you asked them to check the rear mount doesnt mean they did. There are a number of people who asked the dealer to check the rear mount then checked it themselves afterwards and it was loose. They tightened it and added locktight themselves.

I dont trust a dealership to change my oil. Its kind of a pain to check (the mount) due to disassembly so its easy just to say "we did" and leave it at that. Its not their car...they dont care.

I dont care if the dealership has "a great rep" or not all it takes is one employee.

What type of driver are you? Do you launch the car alot?

I dont think it has anything to do with how the guy drives... I have a buddy that had roughly 100 track runs and never dropped his motor with over 70k on it. His car had just about every bolt on you can can aside from a big turbo. he later traded it in due to the turbo going and cv axels for a tocoma. He did have upgraded SU motor smounts so maybe thats why he never dropped the motor.

I sense much anger in this thread. I dont think that this is a very common thing having it drop twice. I have an 07 and have the stock mounts and have had no problem whatsoever although they maybe are a little bit wobbly. You are reading a forum, everthing tends to be exacerbated because of opinions and much speculation although these mounts seem to be a well known issue that have been around for years and years

I sense a sort of 'Stockholm Syndrome' going on. I have to admit it, even the engine mount issues haven't soured me completely on the MS3....so I can understand a little bit of resistance to thinking, 'Wow, you got a bad car!' because it can lead to, 'I wonder if I have a bad car??'.

First, I am truly sorry for all those owners out there who are having trouble with their cars. When ever I read all the negatives post, I gotta wonder if I lucked out or people just beat the crap out of their cars.

The only 2 "problems" I have are the creaky windshield (occaisonally) and the loud suspension when really cold.

1. I live in MA and in the winter the suspension makes the loud noises only when it is below 20 degrees. It is totally gone after 10 minutes of driving. No big deal.
2. Windshield creaks only when really cold. Not a big deal.
3. I drive 35k a year. my commute is 120 round trip 5 days a week. I never had a mechanical problem. I have 25k on the car. I drive it hard at times which it was designed for.
4. The transmission is buttery smooth even in single digit temperatures.
5. No idea why there is a complaint with 3rd gear. I never missed a shift.
6. No smoking turbos

I am constantly asking a fellow Speed3 owner I know "Have you had any problems?" He has an 08 (I have an 09) and his has been flawless. I keep waiting for something to happen because of all these horror stories. I either lucked out or know how to properly drive and maintain a car. I have owned over 15 cars in my life time, Hondas, Audi, Mazda, Nissan, Mini, Subaru and I never had mechanical problems with any of my cars except the Audi and that was just the ignition coil that was a known problem anyway. I don;t know, I gotta think it is just how people drive and maintain their cars.

Right. Blame the victim. I don't drive aggressively, and with the exception of being a little late on my last oil change, I've meticulously maintained my vehicle.

I got one of the first MS3s that came off the boat and I genuinely think there is something wrong especially with those first few cars. By the time you and your buddy got yours, perhaps the problems were quietly fixed?

Generally, the engine mounts on a car should not fail unless the car is abused - but they HAVE failed on this model in cars that are NOT abused. What kind of abuse could cause this EXCEPT for hard launches, and as I've said - since the first mount failure, I have not done any hard launches.

I was truly baffled at the second engine drop - specifically because I've been on best behavior with this car since the first engine drop.

Sorry, it came off wrong. I was not putting you personally on trial.

I know i dont have a bad car. And im not beating on you dude chill out on the whole Stockholm syndrome dramatics. I was sharing MY experience on MY car which is the only thing I can compare your situation too. I sorry this happened to you, apparently lightning does strike twice and you got rather unlucky. Im happy that you arent totally disillusioned with the MS3, as I think that it for the most part is a quality automobile.

Well then trade it in or go fight with Mazda if you're so traumatized. Otherwise, we're trying to tell you what you can do to avoid any issues.

And besides, driving on the stock mount sucks. The engine moves all over the place and your shifts will always feel sloppy and mushy.

Geez guys, nondual suffered a catastrophic failure and you're flaming him. He's right, you should never have to buy an aftermarket part to keep a car running and especially not to prevent the engine from falling out.

nondual, I clearly remember your first thread as you were one of the guys who paid top dollar for the car and also one of the guys with the sheared motor mount.

If I were you, I'd be pushing hard on Mazda to repair everything an give you the longest extended warranty they provide, free of charge.
Also, if the engine falls out a again (knock on wood), maybe you can use the lemon law.

Issues every now and again = ok

Engine fall out = Not ok.

Frankly, NONE of the other issues bother me. A catastrophic engine mount failure twice in three years is the issue. I don't care about clunky sounding suspension or creaking windows in cold weather. I don't care about a sooty tailpipe because the engine runs pig-rich when stock.

I DO care that the engine stays in the car after ONE total repair of a failure and a rather meager 38k miles.

It's an MS3 forum where we're used to failure (engine explosions), why would this be any different? At this point, if you haven't taken the necessary precautions, I can't really sympathize. Sorry.

I shouldn't have to take 'necessary' precautions in a stock vehicle. Really.

Let's get real about this - are these engines blowing up in stock vehicles that aren't abused? Because THAT should get some sympathy. The vehicle should be made to tolerate normal driving without catastrophic failures.
