wow, i just checked car-part. they don't even know that a 2.3l is turbocharged. and the bad part is that the 2.3l is built better so looks like you have no other options besides the dealer.

did you turn up the boost?

what mods did you have?

I've read turning up the boost on the 2.3T DISI is a no no without tuning or a bigger turbo as the stock turbo is close to its peak output on the stock engine. I'm still surprised you blew this motor because of its forged internals.

it doesn't take much effort- built or not- for a poorly managed engine to blow.

as i said, there really aren't that many options for engines right now seeing as how the 2.3t is built compared to the N/A 2.3. You might have to take this one up the ass and learn the hard way and order the parts from Mazda. (Use one of the Mazda OEM vendors on the site so you don't have to pay normal dealer markup!!)

How much boost were you pushing, and what gave way?

What broke??????????

I don't see how you could blow the motor with just the mods you listed unless ther was something else wrong already.

Boosting over 18 psi and you'll hit fuel cut. Even at the limit of 18 psi your afr's are still in the low 10's(mine are and I have more mods than you listed).
Unless you ran it out of oil, or had a vacume line come off the wastgate, I just don't see how you could have bown the engine with just those mods.

The turbo isn't efficient at higer boost levels in the upper rpm's but that doesn't mean it won't go a little higher--I peak right at 18~19 psi and hold just under 15 psi to redline. I'm not getting the extra power I would if the turbo was more effecient at higer boost levels(in the upper rpms), but it's still stronger than stock. Even when i still had the stock solenoid hooked up and was seeing spikes to 23 psi I never had a WOT afr than was anywhere near unsafe. I think the higest WOT afr I've ever seen on my motor is around 10.9 which is still really rich...

The 2.3T is a very tough motor that is tuned very very rich from the factory I don't think basic bolt ons will ever come anywhere near to overtaxing the feul system(I've already got just about all of them)--especially when the ECU will NOT let you boost it past 18psi above 5500 rpm.

I think there's more to this story.

wow man, sorry to hear this...

First blown mazdaspeed6 engine to date? congrats I guess?

What does the dealer want for the engine plus labor? I'm sure its something crazy high...

There's got to be more to this story. I just don't see how the motor could have blown with just the mods listed. There are a LOT of MS6 owners that drive their cars VERY hard with more mods, making much more power...

I don't get it.....

Maybe he had been doing a lot redline launch.I saw 2 sti blew there motor and was noy covered also. There us definitely more to the story.

werd. i just came today from the tracks and saw A LOT...and i mean A LOT of car blowing their engines and transmissions off...including my friend. Its increadible how stupid people can be by pushing their cars to the limits just to show off. I saw a turbo 350z blow up just after finishing the 1/4mile...saw a mustang blow its transmission and after being towed off hte track, the next car, an srt-4, did as well. crazy night.

still have not got my car back from the dealer, but they said that connecting rods came out the oil pan, or the block or something, they said that the inspector looked up into my ecu and saw hi boost. i think the engine itself is around 16000. with labor like around 21000, i said thats crazy!! thats kind of what i owe on the car. i was not redlining but i was going around 130 140 at fifth gear at around 5 or 6 rpm

also might be thinking on selling my parts, cai, cpe down pipe still in the box did not get to use it, cat back, electronic boost cont.

$16k for the engine? raising the BS flag on that s*** right there.

Ha ha, yeah I can't believe they'd actually try to pull something like that on you.

did you think to remove the aftermarket parts before returning for the WARRANTY? take it somewhere else, another dealer. 21000 w/ labor for just a new motor. :bs: I got your bs back. lol

Find out what your dealer is saying caused the problem. Don't just let them say "your mods did it". The MS6 connecting rods are forged. They are one of the strongest parts of the block. The only real engine problem your mods could have caused is detonation(which shouldn't have happen as rich as this car runs). If you did have detonation you should have damaged the pistons/rings or the head--not the rods.

You need to make things harder for them, don't just roll over and let them win.

Why didn't you remove your boost controller before you took it to the dealer??????????

If you do end up footing the bill you need to go to a reputable performance shop and have them build you a motor. You should be able to get a new block and crank with forged pistons and rods for somewhere around 5~6k installed(even less if they can use the block and crank from a regular 2.3L. If you damaged the head and turbo you might end up closer to 10K but it'll still be ALOT cheapher than your dealer.

Hell for 21K I bet you could fly Juan from hiboost out to build you a motor and turbokit and frontmount all at once--and then fly him to my house to do the same with the cash you have left over.

21k scooby snacks?????are they plan on building this engine from scratch???? thats just as much as the car is going for (rebates)......where the hell do you live????????might as well give them hell and I mean hell!!!! what else you got to lose

umm... dude, an ms6 L3-VDT *brand new* short block only is only $2977.55 from any dealer... even with with 10% markup rapage, it's only around $3300... and let's ASSUME they charge you 8 hours to swap the short block, at $85 an hour for labor.... that's only $680... let's be generous and add another $100 of bulls*** shop fees and maybe another $100 for tax.. you're still paying less than $5000
