Electric Superchargers-Fantasy or the Future?

I came across this on eBay. I've heard that electric superchargers were coming but that they still wern't powerfull enough to make a big difference. This one in particular doesn't seem up to snuff. What y'all think?

It's funny people still say this. If all the people who got riped off on Florida swamp land in the 50's kept it they're lucky because all that land around here is worth a fortune now. There's a guy out near I-drive who bought his home in the 50's for about $2000. His granddaughter sold it to Universal for about $3 mil.:D Unfortunatley she didn't tell him she sold it.
 
Actually its not the new Supras when they come out by toyota are going to have electric assisted turbos that keep down emissions under vac. and also help with spool up. try to find a website
 
hey guys i had an idea about nitrous. instead of getting a 600 dollar kit and refills. why not go to the store and get a bunch of whip cream. then just do whip its into the intake. would that help out. :D
 
I guess it would be possable to have some sort of electronic fi but it doesnt come from ebay. it would probably cost more than it was worth to make any kind of power.

plus what the hell is so great about electric supercahargers or whatever? Its not even like they make a cool noise.
 
Maybe it would be decent with my Alternator, AC Delco 180 AMP. I checked the charging voltage yestureday, 15.4 volts at idle!
 
Electric assisted turbos and electric 'boosting devices' are a reality. Just not on ebay.

Garrett is working on an electric motor assisted turbo. Boost available at idle, quick transient response(or no 'lag').

There is another company that makes a fully electric turbo unit. I believe Its intended to be used as a quick boosting, low boost device to eliminate turbo lag, or to boost low end response on peaky engines.

I think the upcoming 42 volt standard will open the door for these types of turbos.

HONEYWELL EXPANDS PRODUCTS LINE WITH NEW TURBOPAC SUPERCHARGER

TORRANCE, California, February 14, 2000 Honeywell [NYSE:HON] said today that its Turbocharging Systems business enterprise will be offering the first electrical supercharger. The new Garrett supercharger will carry the Turbopac trade name.

"Turbopac will enable us to continue providing our customers with the latest boosting technologies available," said Rob Gillette, Vice President and General Manager, Strategic Growth for Honeywell Turbocharging Systems. "This new product gives our customers another option to maximum engine performance, which includes faster acceleration, savings at the fuel pump and a reduction of emissions."

The Turbopac supercharger is a motor-driven device that enables immediate engine boost in response to the driver pressing the accelerator. The Turbopac is installed between the air intake system and the turbocharger in vehicles with existing turbochargers.

Turbocharging Systems and Turbodyne Technologies Inc. [EASDAQ:TRBD] have entered into an agreement pertaining to the joint development for mass production of the Garrett Dynacharger and Turbopac products, and an intellectual property and product rights agreement for assignment by Turbodyne for the patent and trademark portfolio related to these products.

Under the expanded agreement, Honeywell Turbocharging Systems has the exclusive licensing rights for the manufacturing and marketing of the Dynacharger and Turbopac products on a worldwide basis. Turbodyne holds exclusive worldwide rights to manufacture and supply electric motors and generators, electronic controls and light metal components for both of these product lines.

"These expanded agreements provide the gateway for further development and mass production of the innovative technologies Turbodyne can offer with partners such as Honeywell," said Gerhard E. Delf, Turbodyne's President and Chief Executive Officer.

The new electrically assisted Garrett Dynacharger turbocharger received international recognition when it was awarded the International Grand Prix for Technical Innovation Jury's Special Prize at the Equip Auto Show in Paris. Prototype testing is currently underway with major automotive manufacturers.

yeah electric assited turbo
meaning its a motor attached to a REAL TURBO
the electric motor just keeps it spinning, not enough to produce much boost though

the things on ebay are nothing more than furnace fans
 
yeah Toyota is coming out with the supra in a electric turbo 6 and an NA v8. it gonna look like the older 2000gt's i think. My friend has some pics in an option mag see if i can get a hold of them
