EGR story

At about 36k the CEL came on for the EGR P0401 IIRC. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal but we are taking a road trip to FL tomorrow in the 7. Wife takes it into the dealer and they give her crap about the intake on there....trying to explain that the intake caused the EGR to malfunction.(drunk) Long story short they cover it. I have seen 1 or 2 other people here that have taken the car in for a faulty EGR. Must not be too much of a problem.

It's not a big problem. Mazda designed the egr poorly from what I understand. In Canada, they even came out with an improved egr for the cars up there. In fact, as far as I can tell, the engine does not need it. But you would want to replace it or clean it (how-to is on this forum) to get rid of the rough idle that can plague our cars sometimes.

EDIT: Nvm, I thought this was for the Protege, didn't read the CX-7 heading...fail
