Ebay CAI

How hard is it for an ameture to install a CAI? It seems like the tough part would be getting it in the fender, unless you just take the wheel-well off, and can get at it that way. Just seems that a ram-air would be an easier install. Just curious...

i put one of those intakes on my MP5 about 3 days ago....it has the EXACT parts that the injen has but not as nice of quality(but it was only $60 delivered so cant expect mutch). I used to have an injen and both the intakes sound the same and the perfromance from both of them seems to be the same as well....so my 2cents are that if u dont care that its jeneric and dont have the money to buy the real thing, go with this.....

The difference from the ebay vs injen is that there are groves inside the pipe of the injen to help spin the air as it coming in. Thats the nice thing with the injen one. You can also add that to the ebay intake too but u gotta add $$ to it. Any one remember the tornado????

buy it, and call injen for some stickers. lol you will have the exact thing all us injen owners paid arms and legs for.

hey an intake is an intake...it not like 1hp will do anything major...espetialy if the 1hp cost an extra $150+. no thank you i rather spend the extra money on more coooool APC glow in the dark stickers and TYPE R badges...lol

Exactly. I did some more research and talked to some guys from VRI (Vehicle Research) at WWU, they say the only difference is 1-2 hp. So your best bet is to go with the ebay one, but just change the filter.

Looks good. I'm most likely going to change mine soon to the ebay cai. I was just about to get the Injen intake. So after talking with a lot of VRI majors, they said the two should acctually be close to the same HP increase.

Got mine..

i just ordered the ebay cai today. I am gonna get a big K&N cone filter. I couldnt pass this up the price is too good. Good scouting on that coqui. liveonspeed has definately hooked us up. i cant comment on effect yet. I am sure i will see some gains with my current setup. Then the fuel pressure reg. :D

Any speed shop has K&N filters in a variety of sizes. Also i am sure u can order them online somewhere. What's the diameter of the piping? 2.5? There are different cones too. Longer ones and regular size. The bigger the filter though the more surface area=more air.

Got mine...

Ok so i got it today. It looks nice. 2 3/4" Good quality stainless and the welds are decent. The fittings all look good. The air filter looks ok. It has a wire mesh like a K&N but i think the element is different. paper maybe. So i am gonna get a K&N. How much room is there in the fender well? Could i get a 6" long cone filter?
another issue is that the overflow line sticks into the tube and has jagged edges. I might have to file this down somehow. Not bad for $60 though.

what makes this intake not work on a msp, if you dont mind me asking?

is it the placement of the parts in the engine bay that dont let it fit? i guess my question is what is the difference between a regular 2.0 and the msp engine that doesnt let them use the same intake. doesnt the intake just replace the stock airbox?

correct. the placement and routing of the airbox on each car is different. on a non-turbo car, the intake would go into the intake manifold, whereas with a turbo car the intake would go to the turbo. on the protege without a turbo, the intake pipe travels to the back of the engine bay while on the msp the piping stays all up front in basic terms.

basic illustrations as to how different intakes look between the two cars can be found here; http://www.mazda3online.com/index.php?cPath=27_33&osCsid=b3cac644c3a7fd0ac3cecc1365b2fafa
