Eat your heart out AGR! :)

Clownphish,

So far it's lasted about 1 month :D (But I've been told it'll last about 3 - 6 depending on wash cycle, etc)

AGR,

That Platinum stuff looks great! (thumbs up) (thumb)to you. :D

Thanks Arlan. We applied that about 8 weeks ago. It's quite durable.

Gotta wash after wax question...

I've used a couple different waxes now and the latest and most impressive was the Zymol cleaner wax which really brought out the mica in my paint. However, after waxing what is the best wash to use? I used the RainX stuff this weekend and it seemed to just wash the Zymol right off... very disappointing though I'm still taken w/the Z. Barring anything you can by online, from your local stores, what can I use that won't dilute the wax effects? Not trying to thread jack, just trying to find something in the interim until I can afford these waxes online. Thanks!

I like Meguiar's Gold Class Car Wash with a sheepskin mit (from Wal-Mart). Dry off with a natural chamois or micro fiber waffle weave towel.

Zymol won't last too long apparently. It's a lot like meguir's one step wax...it'll last you about a month, sometimes a bit longer...but it's only a one step process, so it's a hell of a lot easier than what I did using meg's/3m. And it smells really yummy..=O)

I can attest to this Servo. I used the Zymol Paste Carbon wax before this and it only lasted about 4 to 5 washes (1 mo)

Geezer,
Thanks for the link... :D

How often can I use cleaner wax? I'd like to do it again this weekend but then it will have only been 2 weeks. Is that too soon? My hubby keeps telling me I'm gonna wax the damn paint off. :D

probably a little too soon. Give it the old smoothness test. Run your hand over a clean section of the car and if it doesn't feel like glass you probably need a waxing. With the 3M it'll last me at least until I winterize the car, I think. Shoot...how am I gonna wash the car in the winter?!?!!? Anyone have suggestions?

I've heard that going to the self cleaning bays is the best route in the wintertime. Not the autowashes (unless you like missing parts of your vehicle) but the bays where you spray and wash it yourself w/their power hoses. That's what I did last winter and it worked great, especially for getting salt off of the underbody and in the wheel wells. Alls I know is my car gets no hand jobs (punny!) during the winter! It's not as detailed but it's better than freezing your ass (or your hands for that matter) off, IMO. :D

Okay... I never wash my car in direct sunlight. So; if I run out of shade, I will go to a bay wash. However; I use low pressure, and I bring along my Meguiar's Gold Class, and a bucket with my wash mit, and California Water Blade, and Chamois. I just borrow the shade and water (well,, I pay a little, too). It costs me a couple of dollars in quarters. I will bring a gallon of water with me in one of those water jugs. Don't 'even' try filling a bucket with one of those sprayers. You will be there all day! (lol)

Actually that's a great way to do it - especially using low pressure. Only problem is bays around here all have signs up prohibiting that. Guess if you went late at night you could do it though, I think they're all open 24/7. I think they do that because lines can get kinda long sometimes. I'd like to do mine in the shade I just don't have any available. Sux, but my car still comes out looking pretty good. :D

Greg, you have no idea how many times I've tried to fill that gallon bucket w/ that washer on FULL POWER  :D

That thing won't stay up! lol

No kidding!!! (lol) Then; all you have is a bunch of bubbles and foam! Carrying that gallon of water with the bucket, etc... works well. I usually do the wheel treatment before heading over to wash the car. The nice thing is; my little town of Oakland has a new 6 bay wash, so getting over there early is nice. I don't get run out while I'm chamoising.

Last weekend, I was able to get Jean's ES done in my driveway before the sun came over the houses to my east (which is the way our house faces). But; I went over to the car wash with the 'SPEED, after cleaning the wheels, and was back to the house in an hour to vacuum. (thumb)
