2014~2021 e-loop missing from fuel economy monitor + forscan queries

Hi all,

I recently picked up a second-hand 2017 Mazda 6 2.5 Wagon (Malaysian-market model).

The car did come with a few issues post-purchase, most of which have now been resolved—mainly engine-related. However, one lingering area of concern has been the i-ELOOP system.

My mechanic and I noticed a classic symptom of a failing i-ELOOP capacitor: unstable system voltage. Interestingly, no i-ELOOP warning ever appeared on the cluster. The same applied to i-STOP—it never activated and no messages were displayed. This led me to suspect that the previous owner or dealer had coded both systems off.

We went ahead and replaced the i-ELOOP capacitor, which immediately resolved the voltage instability. After that, I checked the Fuel Economy Monitor and noticed that the i-ELOOP logo and charging animation were completely absent. As far as I can recall, they were never present when I first bought the car either. For reference, below highlighted in the blue square and the text saying i-eloop is what i am missing.

I then started digging into FORScan and confirmed that both i-STOP and i-ELOOP were disabled when compared against the factory As-Built data. I’ve since successfully re-enabled i-STOP, and it’s now functioning correctly. However, I’m still running into issues when trying to re-enable i-ELOOP, specifically within the IC module.

For address 720-04-25, the values currently in the car clearly indicate i-ELOOP is disabled. When I amend only that section (without touching anything else), FORScan throws a “configuration is not compatible” error and refuses to flash.

A few questions I’m hoping someone can help with:

  • Should I be pulling the full As-Built data from Mazda’s website and reflashing all relevant modules, rather than editing individual values?
  • Is the missing i-ELOOP animation in the Fuel Economy Monitor due to i-ELOOP being disabled at the IC level?
  • Or is it possible the previous owner/dealer did something deeper—effectively “removing” i-ELOOP from the infotainment display?

Would really appreciate any insights or guidance from those more experienced with FORScan and Mazda’s i-ELOOP system.

Thanks in advance!
