dyno'd AWR header

Guys, believe him when he says dyno runs should be done in 4th. I think the dyno operator knows more about what he does than you all do.

8whp isn't all that bad for a header. It's not like the FS is a high RPM screaming monster to begin with.

I still think it's funny that I baselined my 1.8 at 111whp. I'll be happy to get 7whp when I do my custom header. Baby steps......(thumb)

These damn baby steps are expensive! :) I guess I'm just jealous of the guys with the V8 mustangs who change out the exhaust system and gain 40-50 hp. We have to damn near rebuild our entire engines to get 40-50 hp. Oh well, Im not giving up yet.

i read its not good to dyno in an overdrive gear (4th & 5th) even though 4th is closest to a 1:1 ratio, its still overdrive. maybe a run in 3rd would have been better.
All my dyno runs are 3rd gear #s. MacSport owner, an SCCA racer and former major-league team wrench, says all pulls should be done in 3rd gear as readings are more accurate. Next time down, I'll make one pull in 4th for comparison.

The make of dyno Scorch and I use is the same, and the same as used by most NASCAR teams. Posts re: dyno #s should be compared using same dyno, not just same make of dyno, are correct. Different dynos will pull different numbers. That's why you want to make all runs on the same setup, otherwise you end up with apples and oranges, even though differences may be small.

I might add that the dyno I'm using is SAE corrected for temp, humidity and altitude for each run--the consistency of three pulls is almost an overline on the others, whether it's the first over the second, the first and third, or first, second and third.

This goes for every dyno run of three pulls that I've done. If each pull varies much from the others, all other parameters being the same, i.e., same gear, no equipment changes, etc., the dyno or the operator is suspect.
