I will be getting a dyno on thursday 5/24. It is a dyno jet which I believe was the most reliable.... What should I be telling them? I have heard open hood, closed hood, 5 mph fan, etc. I get 3 pulls for $75. If they should all be different I need to know that. I need to know before thursday am.

All help is appreciated.

An open hood and a couple bags of ice be a good idea. Also get a printout of Air/Fuel Ratio with the dyno. Are you having it tuned or just dynoed?

my best run was hood close with a 50mph fan in the front.

i put 212hp 220lbs/ft stock on a mustang dyno.

For the ice thing, it depend if you want to show big number or REAL number.

Do you alway put ice on you IC when your at red lights sierra248?

yeah.. dont treat the dyno like its a competition and do what you can to spike the numbers.. get a real dyno i would say for the 3.. do the 1st hood closed, 2nd hood closed with fan, and 3rd top open with fan on top.

Wow, I can't wait to see the results! Your list of power mods is identical to my wish list, all except for the BOV. Good luck! (drinks)

Nothing to tune. No EMS out yet. Well no plug & play..... Just going to get the numbers.

i hope you are being sarcastic here??(uhm) because having your hood open and a couple of bags of ice really sound like real world driving(2thumbs)

if you were being serious, i suggest you not give any more suggestions until you actually know what you are talking about. I suppose the next thing you will tell him is to do the dyno runs in 1st gear right?

if were being sarcastic then please disregard any negative connotations i have made

I would be very interested to see pulls in 1st and 2nd if it is possible. We have been told that torque is limited in these gears and it would be interesting to put numbers on it. I have a method for determining optimum shift points, but need torque curves in these gears.

I don't know about you but I can feel a huge difference between 1st 2nd and 3rd gears.

you only get 75% of powe in 1st gear and 85% in second so if they average the gears you wont have a acurate reading of power output. I think this is what automobile magazine did to net 216hp, in addition i read that the mustang dyno is much more conservative than dynojet

i read that in 3 diff magazines

i read that mazda did that becuase it front wheel drive. You dont get full power till 3rd gear. A tech said you really dont get full power till 5fth when the throtlle body fully opens

Results

Here's my results with all mods installed listed in my signature.

263.36 hp
281.67 torque
86.65 F
25% humidity

I had to drive 80 miles just to get to the dyno! We have nothing close by.

My first run with the hood up was almost identical to this run 263hp - 279torque. We did 2 more runs with the hood up that were in the 250-252 hp range. The charted and final run was the only printed in the attachment with the numbers shown. This was with the hood down. Additionally there was a small fan at 5mph blowing on all runs.

Just had mine at the dyno and heres the results of the 3rd/final run and some links to a couple of videos I made.

This place http://www.racingsolutions.com/merchant/index.html normally work on vipers/vettes and such. At the end the guys were grinning and told me they were impressed with the little mazda and that it still had room for safe hp gains.

Vids here-

do you ever have problems with boost cut?

do you ever have problems with boost cut?

So far i have had no problems at all (touch wood) the car drives like stock but with more power. The only thing i dont like is the vibrations from the engine mount, i might try the insert for the stock mount.
