dying protege 5.. need help!!

I have a 2003 protege 5, have been having problems with it idling rough and dying while at stops..I just did a tuneup- new plugs, wires, coils, air filter. Now its running horrible.. I've even re-set the computer. Now when it is idling below 1100 rpm, it idles very rough and dies everytime.. this is my work transportation, so I need to fix this ASAP.. can anyone offer me some advice?

check your air intake hose too. might be cracked. is your check engine light on?

Already checked it- good shape. Atf first, it threw a misfire code. That's why I changed the parts I did. After I changed the ignition parts, I cleared the computer, and it has run horribly ever since..

yea then its probably your egr valve then. you should get it replaced. if its dying when your idling.

only way i could think of testing if its the MAF sensor is to clean it with carburetor cleaner thats o2 sensor friendly.

they do sell MAF cleaner specifically now. you can clean your EGR valve with carb/egr cleaner. i'd do that first. sensors are crazy expensive even used. also check for vacuum leaks! also check o2 sensors. good luck!

Swap MAFs with a local Protege owner if possible... if problems still occur, clean or get a new EGR. There were some new Canadian EGR valves on ebay last week for a steal, might want to pick one up just in case.

FYI, the Canadian EGR valves are better.

Never heard of a shake test other than wrapped presents. But I would say clean the egr. I would fix the problem soon before you bake your precat that 400 bucks right there if you have emissions if not an excuse to spend 100 bucks on a header to remove it

Hey guys- thanks for all of the help! In the process of reinstalling my egr after cleaning it.. it was packed tight! Will post after I run it.. thanks again!
In the near future, ill be asking for input on customizing and performance..

CAn I get in on this? Sorry to hijack your thread.......

New guy here. 1st post.

I also have a 2003 Mazda Protege 5 with a similar issue. I was coming home from work and out of nowhere it starts pulling down, I could feel the car lag at a constant speed. It went away, then later that afternoon it popped a PO300 code. I did the obvious, changed plugs, checked for vacuum leaks, cleaned EGR valve. My EGR was clean and felt OK. I opened it with a screwdriver and the spring felt strong, etc. So I cleaned it up and reinstalled it. I made it about 1/4 mile before it started acting up again.

Now sometimes I have plenty of power and it will redline in a heartbeat, other times, I can be cruising at 60 and when it happens it won't accelerate at all. I can put it to the floor and it will only maintain. I don't want to just change parts to be changing them. Where would you go next?
