Ok, say I am not huge into a fancy system but dont want a piece of crap. I am going to stay on stock speakers but can expect to upgrade to better speakers and subs upon my comnig back from iraq.

i have a lot of Armin Van Buuren (thats all i listen to), approx 3gb at this point, and was wondering if there is a deck that will play mp3s off a dvd?

Also, i dont need it now but maybe have a flip up touch screen later with movie playing abilities...so either a single din and then put an addl piece or an affordable double din with the screen with it...

i dont know much about these things and i see a lot that are real cheap and a lot that are real expensive.

some of them im not sure if they require more parts to make everything work, etc.

remember, im not huge into stereos. i was happy with my 125 dollar alpine 9811 before...so this doesnt have to be much of an upgrade wattage etc wise.

What is your main concern aside from the ability to play DVD's? Do you want fancy looking or good quality?

niether is important...to a certain extent. i dont want a walmart deck but if i spent 2200 i would never notice the difference between something much less expensive.

Just go for the JVC one. It's got a lot of good options for the price.. 5v preout options, mp3 playing options (even if they're 1 gig worth burned onto dvd), Sirius ready options... plus it comes with this really sweet 3" screen. What the heck else do you think you would need?

a bigger screen some day maybe i dunno...i was just looking for opinions etc.

looks like its time to rebuild my poker jackpot up for that mod. But youre def saying that it will play Mp3s off a DVD right?

Have you looked at the alpine units? Check out this one. It reads everything from cda, cd-r/rw, to mp3s to dvd-r/rw. The only thing that it doesn't seem to read is dual-layer dvds, but you'd need a dual-layer burner on your computer if you want to burn your music onto a dual-layer dvd anyways.

This unit's MSRP is $1,600 USD, but you can find them commonly selling for about 400 dollars less ($1,200 USD).

This player's 7" fully motorized touchscreen monitor and the menus are designed to be very easy-to-use. Take a look at this article, it tells you about how the touch screen has vibration technology that makes using it feel like you're pressing actual mechanical buttons instead of just a plastic screen

Sure is nice, but its not exactly cheap for a starter unit. meaning, i can always add another screen to the other unit, right?

Which goes to show my ignorance...can i have the JVC and then add a bigger screen in the next DIN slot or will that not work?

yea that would work probably.. only thing is that you would have 2 screens playing the same thing right next to each other lol
