DVD Headrest solution - lease friendly - affordable

I have been searching for a decent DVD player, headrest combination for the CX-7 to keep the kids happy on long trips. At first, I just used an 8 inch player sitting on the center console, but that made them car sick. You need to keep the screen at eye level or above.

I checked into some headrest DVD solutions, like the Rosen or Myron Davis systems, but they were well over $1000. The ones pictured here are $286, for both, not each. The material is a good match to the leather interior, it installs in about 5 minutes, has a DVD player in each side, FM modulator, 7 inch screen, and supports last memory. Wiring is simple since it uses a lighter plug-in or, if you wish, it also comes with more permanent wiring. They are not a perfect match to the stock headrests since they are a little wider and a little shorter, but they look natural in the vehicle.

The built in speakers sound like any other DVD player. The FM transmission is clear over the stereo system. Sounds great on the BOSE. :)

Where?

Where did you get them from?

I got them from HongKong, direct. There are a number of sellers available through some international distribution sites. It was a risk, but I took a chance to see how decent they were. I will post a link in a bit.

Did they had anything that would match the tan/sand leather option also?

damn those are nice. i may get them for my mazda 3.
linky please!

post a picture from the side of the headrest and the front. Never seen the CX-7 headrest so they look stock to me. Nice find.

As part of my ongoing tweaking, I have an iPod video arriving tomorrow. I have a Dice cradle and a video out that runs to a box so that the DVD player can watch the iPod signal, as well. That way I can manage the movies in the front seat and have no DVD's to fuss with. It also means that the iPod is directly wired to the stereo for sound. I will post pics once I have them in place. Makes for a flexible solution. Each kid can watch their own movie with the radio headphones I have, they can watch the same DVD, they can watch the iPod and finally, they can watch the track information when music is playing :)

besides the visible stitching on the headrest which is not present in your leather nobody can say that is not your original headrest.Good job and the ipod idea is very good I would do the same.

Yes, the double sided stitching is the give away. The stock headrests and the seat only have a stitch on one side. But, all the replacement headsets I looked at had the same look, whether they were $800 or $100. I also have two 7 inch headrest LCD monitors that I will be looking to get installed into the stock headrests. I want to see how that would work, as well. These ones, however, were absolutely painless to install. You simply pull out the stock headrest, put the larger tubes in, runs a wire through, unzip the side to run the cable out and plug it into one of the 12V power outlets. It literally took me about 5 minutes each.

Dice cradle

I'm interested in the Dice cradle for the Ipod.
Can you describe the setup and where you got it?
I'm looking for something to drive the headrest and the navigation screen via a video Ipod.

The iPod adapter (for non NAV systems) is available at the TheRPMStore.com. With NAV, you need the aux port adapter for audio input. It works fine, but does not integrate with the stereo controls like the Audiolink would. There is a video out on the DICE cradle as well as the AudioLink adapter, so it can be tapped whether you have the integrated iPod solution or aux mod for NAV.

I bought the DICE cradle and KUDA mount at:

http://www.kudausa.com

I ordered the mount and cradle at the same time. Here is a shot of it with my nano in place. I will take an updated picture with the iPod video tonight.

Have to still take a pic, but the video iPod is in. Easy to manage, that's for certain. Can't see the music playlists, however, on theback screens. No biggie, just would have been nice.
