Dust cover behind rotor?

Hey guys, about to go paint my calipers and I was wondering about the dust cover/blocker/stopper/whateverthef*cker thing behind the rotor... can I remove that? Is it some sorta heat shield or something? It just looks tacky behind my new wheels.

I've seen those painted before. It looks good if it's the right color.

You can remove it. I don't recall how hard they are to remove though.

good question. ive seen people remove it before, so im assuming its not hard to do, but will it ruin anything that it is shield in the wheel weld? must be there for a reason... idk though. if u paint it, the color may warp because of all the heat (even if u use the 500 deg paint or wutever) i say just remove them - chris

I read somewhere that the dustcovers protect some kinda suspension boot.... CV boot? from getting eaten away by the brake dust.....

I wouldn't remove it. Protects the inside of the rotor from road hazards. And in my opinion please don't paint. I think too much paint behind the wheels is taky. You want the rotors and calipers to stand out.

:D
