Dual purpose wheel or dedicated snows

Guys and Gals,

I'm contemplating 17" Enkei RPF-1's to serve as my winter wheel and possible track wheel down the road. Is this a wise move or should I go cheap winter wheel and then change out my summers to something lighter and track worthy?

I would go for the latter. Yes for the couple months you have your cheap wheels and snow tires on you'll probably not be too thrilled with how they look, but it's winter, who cares? No matter how much you try and keep your car looking good it's still going to look like s*** most of the time due to salt and whatnot, so who cares what your wheels look like?

It's worth it in my opinion. I have a cheap set of 17" Sport Edition wheels. They're 6 spoke, not too bad to look at, and only cost like 60 bucks a pop. This way, come spring, it takes half an hour at most to swap em for my summers and I'm done.

How did you find Sport Edition's for $60.00?? The cheapest I've found were from Tirerack for $103.00 each. Do tell!

dedicated snows....i picked up a set with dunlop wintersports for 100 bucks total on craigslist. They had 1 season on the tires

Well, they were actually a gift from my step-dad who is a big car guy for christmas. He saw what hell I had with the stock tires my previous winter so he got the wheels/dunlop graspic 2's for me last year. I might be wrong about the $60 price tag, but I know for a fact that all 4 wheels came to a little over $300. So maybe in the 70's is something more realistic.

Maybe prices have gone up in the last year, don't know.
