Hi! I have been following all the info. on the 5 and drove one today since I will be in the market shortly for a new car. I currently drive a 2004 Mazda RX8 which I ordered brand new back then.....love the car....it will be for sale soon. My thoughts....just to let you know, I drove a CX7 first, than the 5.
The 5 was very peppy, smooth and quiet with a little body roll on the twisties. By far this is the best car for your money! It has the cargo, the fun to drive factor, the fuel efficiency and it has good sporty looks. I was impressed with this vehicle and would be happy to have it in my driveway after tinting the windows and adding leather to it. Now, I drove the CX7 first and maybe no comparison, but the 5 certainly holds it's own. The CX7 is faster than my automatic RX8....way faster! The handling is superb....no body roll! This car is exciting to drive and I'd trade my RX 8 in a minute for this new one. Although to me the RX 8 has the best looks of any car in it's price range...it is a thing of beauty, but the zoom zoom factor in the CX 7 is unbelievable! The 5 gives me navi, leather(when added)in '07, climate control, moonroof, 3 rows of seats, better fuel efficiency, remote start, homelink/compass all for under $24,000!!! The base CX7 starts at $ 24,100 and I'd have to add the moonroof package with Bose 6 cd changer. It puts me at $26,245...no leather, less fuel efficiency(2mpg less), but gives me stablity control, traction control, power seat, and 18" wheels. So, I guess it's up to my husband.....he will like the CX7 I bet, but it will come down to price and fuel efficiency and his mood when it comes time!(I hope by late August). Mazda 5 drivers you have a great car and have made a great choice and I may be joining the ranks someday!!! Post pics of your five...we need to see more. I love the pearl white!! Zoom, Zoom! Wendy

i'll ***** out our 5 some more. we just picked it up on sunday. and it's a blast to drive.

Good luck with your decision, I'm sure you will be happy either way. We LOVE our 5.

Here's my Pearlwhite MZ5. I packed the 5 with my longboard this weekend and I was suprised to see that my board fit in with at least 2 feet to spare. The Kia Sorento we traded in barely had enough room to fit my 9'3" longboard. Next step is to get the racks.... Hope you enjoy the pics.

It's not bad, just like every other suburban neighborhood in the western US.
Maybe I should have taken pictures on a day other than trash day so it would have looked even more Stepford-like.(bike)

I'd rather live in the city, but the schools...

Thanks!

Thanks everyone for sharing the pics! I like the idea of buying both the 5 and CX7. This will be my 3rd Mazda and I am excited to get either one but I get a strong feeling the 5 is the one! I will post when I get my new car!!! Zoom Zoom!

I think the 5 is great. it is easy to get in and out of the front and back seat. It is in a category all by itself. To the untrained eyes, the CX-7 is like the Nissan Murano and other SUV.
Here is my Pearl White after a shower. This car looks awsome in the sun.

I <3 my car, bought one of the first ones to hit the shores of Canada and have never had any regrets. It fits my family (2 kids) perfectly, and is a really really fun car to drive.

nice pic. Is that Mt. Robson in the background?
Our Protege5 brought us from Vancouver, to Jasper, Banff and back that's why it looks familiar. The Columbia Icefields parkway is arguably the most beautiful stretch of road ever. But it's now time for the Protege5 to go. We're now in the market for a Mazda5.

I got the shark fin antenna from visual garage. I believe it is visualgarage.com. I was the first 5 to get the antenna. I had a small problem with the roof not being flat so they sent me a new one... I just got to install it. It works almost as good as the stock antenna and can go through car washes with no problems.

do you know if that shark antenna would work for a protege5?
sry for the thread jack, get the cx7!

I love to drive this car! I haven't test driven the cx-7 yet - but I know that I'll be tempted by the cx-9 next year (or is it later this year?)

Have fun with the new car purchase - I'm sure that either car will be a blast to drive - zoom- zoom!!

This is an old pic - too busy driving to take pics!
