Driving in the rain

We picked up our New 2016 Mazda CX5 touring a few days ago and yesterday while driving in the rain and returning home opened the back right passenger door to be in aw of finding mud on the door opening threshold. after inspecting the door gasket at the bottom the trim was also covering in mud. No light ever cam on to indicate a door not closed fully. I cleaned things up like new and later had to venture out in the rain making sure the door was closed only to return home and after checking once again found more of the same.
Has anyone else experienced this same thing? Its hard to imagine that a brand new car could have a door not sealing issue such as this. I hope this post isn't to confusing and hope there is a simple explanation as to how this could happen.

Can you post a picture of where you are talking about? If you mean the door-jam I think that's typical of any car because the gasket only seals the outer side and protects the interior.

I will try and Post a picture later when I get a chance. The mud/wet road grim was actually inside past the gasket. had it not entered the inside I would not be concerned. I had traveled a bumpy section or road when I believe this happened, which makes me wonder if Body flex was the cause.

I have driven in many torrential rains over the last three years and never had any water/mud leak past the door gasket. If yours leaks, and the door really was latched, you need to get it fixed under warranty. The CX-5 is known for it's above average chassis rigidity so this would not normally be something to worry about. A strong, rigid chassis is why the car has such a nice taut driving experience and scores so high in crash testing.

I have noticed this on mine as well. I spend a lot of time exploring back roads, and noticed the muck creeps in way further than any other car I have owned!
