Driving cycles needed!!!

:
Mazda 3 2.3L
So i got the O2 sensor replaced and before it can pass emissions I was told I needed to reset the monitors by doing certain driving cycles. I had to call the manufacturer...who knew nothing about it and to call the local dealer's service dept. Who also knew nothing about it.
i was told by a friend to unplug the battery for 5 mins and ten the ECU for 5-10mins....will that work?

Did you have a CEL for the o2 sensor? If you did, that could be what they are talking about. After replacing the o2 sensor, drive around and see if the CEL comes back with the new sensor. That could be what they mean by "driving cycles". and to "reset" the monitors, just disconnect the negative battery terminal and I believe you can hold the brake pedal to discharge whatever stored energy is left. Then, reconnect the negative battery terminal and drive around to let the ecu readjust itself to your driving and to the new o2 sensor. As far as passing emissions, you should be ok as long as you don't have a CEL. Anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong on anything.

driving cycle is just that...a driving cycle...car on drive, car off. repeat.

ECU stores these cycle codes even if you dont have a CEL showing!
Resetting the ECU will not clear these cycle monitors, just drive it for couple days and go get the emissions done. I dont know how it is in CT, but in IL they will tell you if you failed because of unready monitor code. So just drive more and come back later.

Drive cycles are different for different cars but it usually takes about 30miles after unplugging my Haltech FMU and going back to the stock ecu for inspection. Lots of stop n go and getting on and off of the freeway.

half tank of gas..bring vehicle to operating temp then drive 30-40 mph for a min and then stop and idle..repeat that about 6 times then get on the highway and stay at 50-60 mph steady throttle for 5 miles get off highway and go back on the highway 50- 60 mph steady throttle for 5 miles..you might have to repeat that entire cycle 3 times.meaning shut off the vehicle and do the step again then shut off and do the steps again...your evap monitors will not set unless you have between a 1/4 tank of gas and a half tank..if your check engine light is on then disconnect the battery to clear..but if not do not disconnect.dissconecting resets your monitors to not ready..you want them to be ready..the state inspector will be able to tell you if your monitors are ready, but if you do exactly as i stateted you should be ok and they will be set..

maybe sombody can help me it would be appreciated as i live in NC and cant get a tag till i get inspected...

If there is a check engine light get the code read at the local autozone or whatever. Most places do it for free.
