So my buddy and I did the DP install last Friday. I went with the CPE catted - bought it used so the only thing missing was the exhaust gasket. Install was tough but I was pretty prepared for it given the horror stories reported on this forum. It's definitely a big job but we found a couple of things that made it easier.
1. Take the stocker off HOT. We had planned to strip it down Friday night and finish it Saturday. For kicks I tried my O2 sensor wrench (must have) on the pre-cat wideband sensor and it popped off immediately. Zero trouble. I didn't even have to use PB Blaster or anything. We suspect that b/c the engine was pretty hot, metal expansion made it easy. It was, no joke, the easiest part of the whole thing. Same goes for the second sensor. Also the turbo outlet bolts came out w/o PB Blaster as well. Again, heat is your friend. We started immediately after my 30+ mile commute home. It was very hot but workable. I was just wearing latex lab gloves. I just thought we would get started but everything was going so well, we just kept going until the whole thing was out.
2. Take the stock DP out in two pieces. The instructions left this little tidbit out but once we separated the DP it came out without trouble.
3. Separate the stocker AFTER disconnecting it from the turbo and the catback. This allows you to rotate it in the cavity so that you can get to the bolts that hold the DP parts together. Makes things easier.
The whole thing took about 5.5 hours but we were doing it in the street with crappy jackstands, a flashlight and a worklight, and no impact tools. I absolutely think we could easily shave an hour off of that in the same conditions. A lift or better (read taller) jack stands would definitely make it easier. It might have been worth getting a couple more jackstands to put all four corners up. We just had two and it was pretty damn tight under there.
The car sounds stock as I have the stock catback. It pulls like an absolute killer. Very noticeable is how fast the boost spools. I'm very happy with this mod. I was scared shitless about it but always knew it was coming. Heading to the track in two weeks so hopefully this will make a big difference. It certainly will on my commute...
I mentioned that I thought the boost was spooling faster with the DP to Jordan and he suggested that I overlay the boost/rpm curves to see. Voila! THere is definitely an increase in the rate of the spool up. I'm comparing EMS only, EMS+CAI+FMIC and EMS+CAI+FMIC+DP.
After looking at this it seems you get full boost 2-300 rpms earlier but it also holds a higher pressure at the later rpms. I love data...
