downgrading to 17"s?

The guy that owns it has been out to a few events, but he has been running on the stock rubber. The car felt good when I drove it, but the stock rims are way to skinny to be ideal for AutoX.

I'm installing 225/45/18s on 18" X 7.5" ASA AR1 alloys as my street set-up. (I'm going to use the stock rims for the winter after i have some snows mounted on them.)

You're right; the stock rim is too narrow (and too heavy) for auto-cross (or any other form of competition.)

Too narrow for autox?? 7"?? Please...You don't have to have ten foot wide tires in order for the car to handle properly...jeez.(screwy)

I had 6.5" rims on my Eclipse GSX and it fit 235 BFGs (G-force race rubber) perfectly with only slight rollover. And yes, the car + me driving it = nationally competitive.

Doubtful...very doubtflul. First off the GSX is way too heavy to be nationally competitive in it's class and the BFGs on 6.5" rims isn't a good enough tire/rim combo for that much weight.

Besides. I don't think anyone said a 7" rim was too narrow for autoX. It is widely accepted that 7" is too narrow on cars that weight as much as a MS3 to be truly competitive against lighter cars like the ITR.


Let me go back and correct myself. I saw one of your other posts in another thread I am watching. I was basing my rebuttal off of the last several years of Solo II. The GSX was probably quite competitive back when it was first released.

Actually, I finished 4th at nationals in G Stock (now D stock) in 1999. (The main reason I didn't win was that my car, for some reason, was much slower on concrete. I couldn't figure it out...) I won two National Tour events, beating several former national champions in Type Rs in the process. Look up the results and you'll see...

I would even hazard a guess to say that it would still be decently competitive in D stock. Well, not now since the addition of the MS3...(yes)

Yes, the GSX was heavy. However, when you consider it's main rival, the Type R, had ~70 lb/ft of torque less than the GSX, then you get to see where the weight factor was made up.

Trust me, the car was fast in autox.
