Door connector speaker install issue

I am installing new speakers on my protege5 and I ran into the issue with feeding speaker wire from the car and into the doors.

http://protege5.ugly.net/09-11.PDF

The 2nd page at the top, thats what I am having a problem with. The connector fills the entire hole and the rubber boot covers that. If I run the speaker wire around the connector, than the connector doesnt go back in the hole all the way and the boot won't cover everything.

I know this is a common thing to do (putting speakers in) so the answer should be simple but I cannot find it. Please help.

i just ran wires for some lock actuators and i only have to salvage the speaker wires in the front so i cut out the harnesses anbd just reconnected the 2 wires i needed. it might be more work for you if you have power locks/windows/mirrors

Yea the only solution I can think of is to take out the connector and just put all the wires together, but there are like 20 for each side! ... hmmm bump

unfortunately this site has a nice thing wher eold pics are deleted after awhile. I've tried to repost them, but lost my hosting, and have since lost my backup harddrive. I'll see what I can find.

Basically you find empty slots in the plug and drill them out. pull the wire through there.

hmm that sucks about the pictures, good work on the post though, left to my own devices I probably would have punched a couple holes near it in the door so your way is perfect

here's a couple of shot sof what I'm talking about. I had to cut mine out with an xacto knife because it was late, I had things apart and I didn't have any way to get ahold of a drill of any sorts. USE A DRILL. makes life easier.

be careful with a drill. it might go through the side instead of straight. I used a set of pliers to rip the pieces out and a dremel to tidy it up. very laborious but it beats mangled wires.

Other option, which still allows removal of the door if needed, is to get some molex pins from Radio Shack and actually add pins to the stock plug for what ever extra wires you want to run. I did this when I added actuators and window control modules to my old MX-6. That way I was able to run 12-ga wire through the door and still be able to remove it if i ever needed to without having to cut the wires.

well this looks like fun.... haha. Ok. I am not sure when but I will get this done soon, I know I cant do it today because of business. My car is in pieces and I am without sound :'( but yea, looks straight forward enough.

I just put components in the doors of my MSP, and I drilled through the center of the plugs to run the wires. Hopefully these pictures will help illustrate it.

Nice. Thanks everyone. I got the basic idea now. I just need the time to finish installing my speakers, my schedule got real busy real fast, like as soon as I was halfway through install :)

Thanks guys, drilling it out worked. Now when I get off work I gotta make an adapter plate for my speaker. The fun continues (thumb)
