Dont want a pocket for my dbl din...so what do I do??

Hey--
I have a 2003.5 P5 and I am getting an HU soon but dont wanna put in a pocket from a MP3 or MSP. What other options do I have and/or what else can be put there....if you have pics of your setup without a pocket then that would be awesome!

You could get a panel to put gauges in. If you wanna hook up some gauges.

hm..that might look cool cept i dont kno what gauges i would put in..I wont be boostin anytime soon so I cant really think of any guages that would be of importance

That's all I've got sofar. sorta ran out of steam on my ideas concerning smoked plexi with panel meters. Ideally I still want to put some form of red or blue illuminated clock and outside thermometer. The current setup is rather cheezy, but functional. and it's a setup I'vehad since my last car so atleast I'm familiar with it. Basically that's just the standard pocket with a plexi piece between the pocket and the "face" it wedges in there nicely. The thermom/clock thing is just 2-sided taped to the front of that. Honestly the setup looks pretty decent, IRL. But nothing I'm particularly "proud" of.

Brad!! Be reasonable!! Aside from a double din unit or gauge cluster.... what other options are there???? sorry man.. I've thought about this long and hard as well but, unless you want to spend a lot of money buying something or having it fabricated for you, there just aren't that many options. (which is OK since one of the 3 is more than good enough!) I personally have opted to go for the 3 gauge cluster. I found a clock from an infintiy that fits nicely in the center hole so I think that, along with the boot and air/fuel guage, will look cool. L8R

Does anyone happen to know the size of the area that's left under the deck once it's installed? I am thinking of getting some black ABS or something and installing my Sirius radio under the aftermarket CD player.

haha sorry if i sound unresonable i just thought there were some amazing ideas that i passed up when i was dreaming up of something to put there....
i could just stuff like newpapers in there or something
lol...maybe ill just put something over it and just cover the space and try to get the HU in the middle of it

You really think that pocket thing is THAT bad???? I mean, you're really going to get rid of it and mount your stereo in the middle... only to then encase it with some plastic surround (most install shops should have something for you there) but it'll still be a hassle!! LOL and I thought I was bad!! give it up dude!! the pocket thingy aint that bad!! I'm learning to live with it myself. throw your sunglasses or handsfee cell phone headset in there... that's what I do. L8R

Hey Brad,

Ive got a Clarion 1/2 din eq under my Panasonic HU. Looks great, Ill try to have pics up soon. The eq has green lighting which doesnt match the Panasonic, but I had the HU from another car. I think some of the green buttoned Alpines would look sharp with it or maybe a Clarion where you can pick the display color. I didnt want the pocket either, and the eq has a sub volume control/low pass crossover, bass-boost, and 5 bands of adjustments.
